Oh no. Please don't do this to me. I will become obsessed with remembering every goddamn book I've ever read now? Fuck... Damn you, OCD!!!

Fuck. Well, I'm screwed.

The problem with a site like this is that most of my book reviews would probably be either 1, 3, or 5. And then I'd just look like a fool.

I don't know what's weirder. That I haven't read a lot of contemporary books, or that most contemporary books seem to focus around some chick.

I've kept an Excel workbook with a list of books I've read.

Browsed Goodreads, but haven't committed yet.

This site has taught me two things.
1) I read a lot of books.
2) I hate rating things.

Added you BIV, I used my real name also (Whiskeyguy).:action-sm

I'm going to start filling out my read books. The last time I was on the site, I was reading On The Road. Been a while.

Damn it CM Mark, I don't have time for this. Just spent two hours adding books to the site and browsing the recommendations. I think I found out a genre I really like but never knew it had a name... Transgressive Fiction. That seems to describe authors like Danielewski, Ellis, and Palahniuk.

Oh yeah, I'll add this:

I haven't joined yet. I will over the weekend. And I won't be scoring anything, methinks. No way I can remember how much I liked book X from 8 million years ago.
BY scoring a bunch of books I've already received lots of tips for books I never even knew existed...and I've barely scratched the surface of what I've read (I'm at 84 books so far). It's something I'll probably do casually when I'm bored.

Haha, at some point while listing the books I've read, I wondered if any combination of them was going to get me on a "special" list. I almost didn't list one titled "Patriots", which is about the hypothetical collapse of America and overthrow of the federal government... but really I just read it because I love anything dystopic/post-apocalyptic.

I'm already not very fond of this site. How can I rate A Game of Thrones and not IMMEDIATELY get the other books in that same series to rate? What a bunch of fucking bullshit. This will take me hours.

If you hit the author's name and scroll down, it will list all his series. So you can just open up the series and pop them all.

Or, click on the book. When you see the big title on the top, for example:
Colonization: Down to Earth (Colonization #2)

Click on the (Colonization #2) part and it will take you to the whole series.

I still don't like their "rate more books" section. It just gives you the same stuff.

In any case I'm at 133 books and I haven't even started the real digging yet.

I actually got my hopes up when I saw reading lists could be imported, but of course it wouldn't accept my Excel file.

It took me about an hour to list, rate, and add finished date to about 85 books. Then browsing I'll see a book I've read and just add to to the list without a finished date.

I don't like the discussion layout on the site... you can tell that was almost an afterthought. A more robust forum would be really nice. Otherwise it's pretty nice.

I hit 155 and now I really gotta start thinking hard because I'm reaching back pretty far. Also not including a bunch of non-fiction stuff from the political world and whatnot because it'll just screw up my stats and recommendations. Also not counting the several dozens books I've read in Hebrew.

Download the smartphone app. It's really clean and has all the features the site has. Would be useful if you're in a library or whatever and want to see what's on your "Want to read" list. It also allows you to scan books by bar code, which is a cool feature.

I'm going to have to dig out my boxed-up books and go through those to remember the stuff I've read further back than 3 years ago... my memory really does stink. I was staring at Stephen King titles/synopsis and not being able to remember if I read the book or not (although in all likelihood I had).

You can create "shelves" so your recommendations are based on specific categories, plus there are default ones like "fiction" and "science fiction".

Yeah, I just saw the shelves thing. Means I gotta add a few books. At 171 now. Damn, that's a lot of books.

EDIT: OK, I'm stalled at 177 now. I'm sure there are some more but I gotta do some browsing to jog my memory.
