I just bought a 2000 Audi TT quattro last night. Two things about the transmission: 1. Driving it around, it seems that when shifting from first to second is jerks pretty good unless you back off the revs to around 2,000 or less. I thought I should be shifting around 4,000 since that what sounds right, but there's a big time stutter or hitch when I do. 2. At 55 mph in 5th gear (5 speed manual) the revs are at about 2,500. At 65 it's closer to 3. The internets say that in the AWD version, the ratios of 4th and 5th are almost identical. In the automatic version, the 5th gear is much lower than 4th. Why should I be driving around in 5th with it all revved up? I have to go to at least 120mph (which I haven't tried yet) but I would imagine it would be almost redlined by then. That will destroy my MPG if it's revved up that far at regular highway speed. Anyone have experience with TTs or manual transmissions in general? I have 2 more days to return it to the dealer, so I have to figure out if this is ok.
