Audi TT transmission... is this normal?

I just bought a 2000 Audi TT quattro last night. Two things about the transmission:

1. Driving it around, it seems that when shifting from first to second is jerks pretty good unless you back off the revs to around 2,000 or less. I thought I should be shifting around 4,000 since that what sounds right, but there's a big time stutter or hitch when I do.

2. At 55 mph in 5th gear (5 speed manual) the revs are at about 2,500. At 65 it's closer to 3. The internets say that in the AWD version, the ratios of 4th and 5th are almost identical. In the automatic version, the 5th gear is much lower than 4th. Why should I be driving around in 5th with it all revved up? I have to go to at least 120mph (which I haven't tried yet) but I would imagine it would be almost redlined by then. That will destroy my MPG if it's revved up that far at regular highway speed.

Anyone have experience with TTs or manual transmissions in general? I have 2 more days to return it to the dealer, so I have to figure out if this is ok.

I don't know if your transmission situation is ok, but it's an 11 year old Audi. Take it back before it breaks your heart/wallet.

I'm going to have it checked over by the local Audi dealer (the dealer I bought it from knows jack shit about imports) and see what's going on with it for sure.

Just wondering if someone knew from experience what was going on.

I think that the Germans specialize in shit in regards to cars as well as porn.
Every once in a while the Kraut bastards will stumble across a great car, like the 3-series BMW or the S Class Mercedes, but for the most part they're money pits. The Audi I had spent more time broken down than it did running.

Years ago I worked at a shop that serviced alot of foreign cars. I'd never buy anything German after my experience there. Too much shit goes wrong once they aren't "new" anymore.

If I were in the market for a "luxury" car, hands down it would be an Acura.

I love Honda products, but Acuras are so ugly.

I'll take a Lexus.

When the guy who has fixed cars for a living for 20+ years says this, you best listen.
