This show looks pretty cool and it's shot in HD.

Of course I feel a connection with the one they call The Legend.

Ax Men : 01 - Ax Men
Airs on Sunday March 09 10:00 PM
Logging has been called North America's most dangerous job. From individual loggers working with saws and axes to high-powered mega-mills, today's lumber industry is a fusion of ancient tradition and modern technology. Follow a season of a team of logging camps located in the remote, isolated forests of northwest Oregon. Visit with larger than life characters, many of whom are members of logging families that go back generations. See how an elite group of loggers battle the elements--and each other--to race against the clock and earn as much money as they can before the season ends.

as a loger myself I can't wait for the show. The only problem I see is that it looks like some situations were set up. No logger or logging company working now would ever let some of those close calls to happen. There are alot of groups watching to make sure that everyone comes home at night. and if something like those close calls actually happened OSHA would be on the job and either fine the owner for unsafe practices or give a warning and then the owner would have to fire the employee. It is a dangerous job but not like it used to be fifty years ago.

Saw the promo today, looked pretty extreme... almost like they edited a year of footage into a 30 second promo. Hmmmm....

I think it will be interesting at first, and then fizzle out much like the ice road truckers. I just don't see it having the staying power of something like "Deadliest Catch".

^^^ What he said. I think it'll do better than Ice Road Truckers, but it's another lame attempt by the History Channel to copy the Discovery Channel's success with Deadliest Catch. Fuck, they even had an "Off the Ice" post-show, like the "After the Catch" shows.

The major problem with the Ice Road Truckers was that while the job was crazy dangerous, it was also really, really boring. And the drivers themselves were fucking AWFUL as personalities. The entire stoic Canuck thing just doesn't play as well on TV as the Deadliest Catch assholes.

Maybe this show can capture some of that excitement, but (sorry Polack) I just don't see it being as gripping as Deadliest Catch.

I want my crabbers, dammit!

I watched Modern Marvels about Logging Tech tonight. They had plenty of old film of turn of the century logging. In one old black and white shot, they strapped a camera way up in a tree and filmed as the tree was felled. Then a commercial for Axmen came on, and the cameraman was bragging how he put his cameras everywhere. The next shot was a color shot of the camera strapped to the tree as it was felled. He thought he invented it.

Hey, I know this show is gonna be a shitty show. Those crazy fuckers going out onto boats for a month have a ten times tougher job than any logger. This show is gonna tank. And just so most of the people here know, most logging crews use mechanized equipment to fell trees. Those idiots they paid to carry chainsaws aren't used in most logging operations. I sit all day long in a machine surrounded by 3/4 plate steel. We are safe now. No need to make a t.v. show about us.

Dude, some of those "do everything" logging machines that cut, de-branch, and section an entire tree in 30 seconds are freakin' AWESOME.

Not something I want to do myself, but just the mechanical brilliance of the machine is fucking cool.

I hope they have some footage of them using helicopters to do the hauling. It would also be interesting to see what a few mills look like in the north west. Our mill is big for this area but nothing compared most out west.

Thats the only reason I'm watching this show. I want to see how they use modern equipment out there. We just use harvesters and skidders still.

Watched the first episode and am so pissed I can't even think straight. That show did a good job of showing the dangers but painted us loggers as retards. No logger lets himself get into a situation like that. It seems like these guys were showing off for a television camera. When that choker gets set you are supposed to be at least fifty feet away. Tat one guy was no more than ten feet away watching the tree go up. OSHA is gonna have a field day fining those crews. Every violation is on camera. to prove that they are showing off is in the first ten minutes. The one armed owner renting a chopper to do a job he's done himself shows he's trying to show the rest of the world that he's a better logger than the other crews. And what's this shit they only work for three months. My crews work year round in worse weather than that and don't make more that 28,000 a year. Fuck this show and the actors they got to play loggers.

The USFS sets the times they can be in the forest working, to prevent erosion, game breeding, elk calving areas, endangered flower pollination times, bla bla bla. Then the snow gets 20 feet deep on 70 percent slopes the rest of the time. They are lucky to get 3 months.

Why the hell was the guy with the smoking gloves holding on to a cable being pulled by a helicopter? He couldn't have done shit to unkink a 60 mph cable.

I did like how they had the map to show just how far they were from Dutch Harbor. Oh shit, wrong show.

Oopsie...

Enough with these stupid fucking Rottweilers and Pit Bulls already. Is this 'killer dog as pet' shit really fucking necessary?

I don't remember reading in the story about any Pitbulls....
