Ever since that caller to O&A referenced them I've been watching their videos and I must say, I kind of like it.

Yes, it is. Japan is a nation of degenerate perverts and paedophiles.

But when put against metalcore faggotry of awful bands that are selling loads of records, like Bullet for My Styist and Bring Me The Hair Straightener, these wee gals of Babymetal absolutely kill all these other shitty bands.

I have no problem supporting them. I mean, just look at how much they run around on stage and dance their little socks off. It's awe-inspiring.

This is just their gimmick. Idol pop is so saturated that you have to find ways to stand out. And it worked. They made international waves, which is incredibly rare for Jpop like this. I really like Megitsune but none of the other stuff I've heard grabbed me. I do think the one girl who can actually sing is really cute.

Shouldn't this be in the "awwwwwww" thread?

And what's the deal with all that jumping around onstage? You're going to get tired and miss notes and shit. Well, I guess autotune, so whatever.

I do think it's unique and it's not bad, like said before it's better than some of the neu crap being released now.

Big fan of this (Japanese female grind.)

I am fascinated. This should be on the TV in the background of a show like Firefly.

There's so much whaaaaaay better Japanese rock music out there. There's even a lot of way better Japanese rock sang by cute girls. Music that they wrote and sang themselves, not stuff overproduced by the idol industry:

Still like 'em. Other's don't, and that's fine. Suzuka's voice is what sells me on them still. Not a fan of the DIVA voice that's so prevalent in Japanese Music. I'm picky in what I listen to out of Japan.

Would go to one of their shows in a second. Even just to watch the band alone. Then there's that voice of Suzuka's.

Da fuq? Okay, I sort of get the cute Japanese thing being a turn on, but does anyone actually watch/listen to this for the music? It's fucking terrible. I suppose the chicks are worth watching, with the volume turned down, but their goofy moves take me right out of the fapping vibe.

I thought that song was very good (I read that it was written by a couple of British speed metal guitarists). Joey, I guess idiosyncratic music is just not for you.

Still don't like the performance though...there are Japanese idol groups who put on way better live shows than that. It annoys me that most people I talk to about Japanese music know about Babymetal, but have no clue about who Momoiro Clover Z are for instance.

The thing to understand about Babymetal is that they're not a metal band. They're a Japanese pop group (and an idol group, which is more commercialized and studio controlled than even your average pop), that happens to use metal to differentiate themselves on the j-pop scene.

Their goal on stage isn't to appeal to die hard metal fans or any other musical subculture, it's to put on a great show for Japanese idol fans.

Yeah, I guess I get that. It didn't suck, as long as you're taking it for what it is. If you expected good american metal, you're gonna be disappointed.
