(Los Angeles, CA – October 1, 2012) — Due to an unforeseen incident, Rashid Evans has officially pulled out of the highly anticipated fight with former WWE superstar DAVE BAUTISTA set for October 6th. The scheduled fight will go on as planned with Vince Lucero stepping in to take Evans’ place as Bautista’s debut MMA opponent. The fight remains scheduled for 8 PM ET/5 PM PT at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island with Cesar Gracie as the play by play announcer.

The six time WWE World Champion is not going to let this small set back stop him from realizing his long time dream of making the move to Mixed Martial Arts. The Bautista camp is business as usual, continuing with his grueling pre-fight training determined to make Dave’s debut fight a successful one, regardless of who ends up in the opposite corner at the starting bell.

Vince Lucero, a 40 year old MMA veteran has an impressive number of fights behind him with 42 professional bouts and 11 KOs. Fights include two-time UFC Heavyweight Champion Tim Sylvia, whom he fought less than two years ago, former UFC heavyweight contenders Justin Eilers, Homer Moore and Christian Wellisch, Strikeforce veteran Ruben Villareal and former World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) contender Jimmy Ambriz in addition to fighting for the Bellator Fighting Championships in 2011. The sheer experience under Lucero’s belt is sure to make him a formidable opponent for Bautista’s debut fight.
His opponent is 22-22 & 40 yrs old

Ol' Vince has a win over Joe Nameth, so he'll always have that story to tell the grandkids.

Why would you shave your chest and arms and leave a 2 inch circle around your bellybutton?

The only thing gayer than that would be having a sun tattooed around your bellybutton.

That fat body is going to get destroyed.
I hope it goes the other way and fat body puts the 'roided out bodybuilder in his place at the bottom rung of actual competition. That's the only reason I've been looking forward to Batista's MMA debut.

It comes down to stamina. Some lean guys, tend to gas out quicker. Unless they're Triathlon freaks.

Lucero is not a good fighter, but he's not a bum of the street either. I would think Bautista would want someone with less experienced as his first fight, but good for him for not backing out. Myabe he's serious about his MMA run. Then again, I'm assuming the end game here is to have Bautista vs Lashley as a future ME, I'm sure the wrestling fans will be all over that one.

By the way, I find it strange the article doesn't mention Lucero fought guys like R. Nelson and L. Johnson who are more known (not to mentioned still relevant) to the casual fan than the other guys (save for Sylvia).

“When I told them I was fighting Bautista, they didn’t say, ‘Good luck, dad!’ They asked, ‘Can you get his autograph?’” joked Lucero at Friday’s pre-fight weigh-in at the Providence Downtown Marriott Hotel. “The guy is a freakin’ monster, but how do you say no to this fight? This is what I’ll be remembered for, so I need to leave it all in the cage.”

My prediction (based on very little knowledge of either guy) is Batista by first round TKO (ground n pound).
I hope so, I hope he dominates a few fights so Dana brings him in on an undercard

I don't keep up with MMA or UFC, but I am watching just to see this fight.... I would love to see this fat slob 2 piece Batista, but I have a feeling Batista is just going to take it straight to the ground, lay on em, a few punches, and end it. Batista is a big fucker.

They don't show Batista walking into the cage (they showed Tale Of The Tape instead) & now they do the national anthem while the fighters are ready???

What is this shit?

The fucking intro, national anthem, and announcing of the fighters and all is going to last longer than this fight.
