From shit beers thread to a connoisseurs thread.

Right now I'm drinking a Czech pilsner. It's nice. It has a clean flavor, similar to Stella Artois. At $30 for 6 bottles, it should be good.

god damn beer snobs. I'm not gonna defend the pee water, but popular "premium" beers are popular for a reason. they are the fuckin best. enough with you beer obscurity contest.

I'm not a beer snob. I just like tasting different ones. Believe me, I have my got to beers, but drink the same ones day after day gets boring. Micro brews and imports need love too.

I enjoy trying odd beers as well. but they always seem to compare to a grocery store beer that is better for cheaper.
that was more directed at posts sure to follow insisting sam adams is shit and teds belgium wheat brew is way better. at least thats the way it normally goes on other fourms i visit.

Eh. I don't blame you for jumping out. I know how some snobs are.

I was thinking about signing up for the 12 month supply of different micro brews that use to sponser Diggnation. Has anyone signed up for this? And is it worth it?

Sam Adams is just the biggest micro, and I think most fans of micros agree it's pretty good. Personally I'd put Boston Lager in my top 20.

Micros are flourishing, and following in SA's footsteps only more slowly. My favorites are Dogfish Head, Victory and Weyerbacher. I understand Stone and Bells are excellent too, although I've only tried their flagships.

As for price, $30 for 6 is grotesque, but I don't think that's too common. I am a little annoyed by the $30+ per case set pricepoint prevalent among micros. Try finding one for under 30, it's rare. I wish I could find some between $20 and $25. Usually when I walk into a beer store wanting to spend that much, the best I'll come out with is a Canadian import.

i like a good beer but this hop head shit has gotten outta hand. anything over 30 ibu is just bitter nastiness to me, i just cant see what is enjoyable about it. and that includes sam adams which i had for the first time a year ago. and because of that its kept me from buying other sam adams varieties.

there are some great breweries around here but my selection is limited. i do like a good red or brown ale and any wiessbeir ill give a whirl and found most ive tried pretty fuckin good. pale ales, IPAs and such just arent my thing

I've had 2 that were just disgusting - sheer hops just for the sake of hops. Like buying the hottest wings from a place that has 12 different levels of heat.

But I like just about all the rest.

I usually go to Wegmans and get one of those "build your
own" 6 packs. They have a butt load of beers to sample.

Holy shit. I need to stop mixing my beers when i take a lortab. I can't spell at all right now.

I wish the Class 6 had a "build your own." :( I hate going to the ABC for beer. It's way too high. Fuck Alabama.

Victory Hop Devil, Stone Arrogant Bastard, Sam Smiths winter welcome, Sierra Pale Ale, most beers by Sam Adams are all good. I don't think I would ever pay $30.00 for a 6 pack. There are so many quality beers at a reasonable price.

Off the top of my head.

    Mendocino Brewing's Oatmeal Stout
    Sierra Nevada's Estate Ale
    New Belgium's 1554
    Rogue's Mocha Porter
    Rogue's Dead Guy Ale
    Firestone's Pale 31
    Moose Drool

& my own recipe of an Amber Ale that's become a staple in my brewing pipeline....just for patting my own back.

Definitely. I had it for the first time at a bar the other night. Felt like I drank a steak.

Discovered Snake Dog IPA recently, as it's about the cheapest I can find - $26/case. I wouldn't say it's spectacular but it's everything I want in an IPA.

I'm a big fan of the Rogue "signature" series. Fancy ceramic bottles and what not. Anyway, I picked this up the other day and am just now drinking it. Pretty tasty even though I'm not a fan of beers of this category. The "mocha" flavor is definitely present.

This stands as probably my favorite beer. I buy as much of it whenever I see it. Best canned brew I've ever had.

You people are reminding me how much I loved working in NYC. There were beer bars all over manhattan that had all kinds of great micros.

PBR is for hipsters and people who just love the irony in having money but drinking $2 beers.
