Just picked up a Zune (The 30gb old skool one, not a new Zune 2) and I want to convert my vast avi collection to zune format. (MP4?) So, what's the easiest, most intuitive program out there to do that?
Wait for the official release of the Zune 2. On that day, thaty are going to make available a firmware update for the original Zunes to give them all the features of the new ones, including MP4 H.264 video support (iPod video). So don't rush to convert everything yet.
Take zune, flush down toilet, buy non-microsoft player. I am not normally a microsoft basher, but the zune is an ugly player, and I like the fact that bill gates hasn't been able to ruin this new market yet.
btw, I remember my first mp3 player: Diamond Rio - 32MB
I saw a zune on display at target playing video, and was very impressed with the quality, and the size of the display. I'm gonna give it a serious try before I swap for something else. If I do though, it will be an Archos. Those things are sweet as shit.
So it turns out there's a way to make the Zune software recognize AVI (divx/xvid) files directly, and convert them for ya. Requires a reg hack and all the proper codecs installed. Happily encoding all my Dexter and Torchwood eps & syncing to my Zune as I type this. Yay me!
