Sony led their CES announcements with news that select Blu-ray titles would contain new extra features on the upcoming BD-Live system (of which all PS3's will be a part of).

1. PSP encoded versions of the feature film.
2. Custom ringtones from in movie audio
3. Java based multiplayer games (for the kids apparently)

Though online interactivity had been on HD DVD last year. Evan Almighty allowed a person to buy toilet paper like the kind used in the film, or so I've been told.

Honestly I don't see this format war ending. I think it is only a matter of 3-4 years before the shift to DLC starts.

I'm still trying to figure out why regular DVDs aren't clear enough for most people. Or maybe my eyesight just sucks.

Maybe you just haven't watched them on a TV over 36". I have a 65" DLP. Everything looks like crap if it's not in HD.

Yeah I still watch most of my stuff on a 32" Sony tube. I'm not particularly picky about it though.

The new Resident Evil:Apocalypse movie out now is the first film to release that gives you multiple versions of the film. No only do you get the Blu-Ray version but it also allows you to download the film to your PSP so you have a mobile version of the film as well.

Now THAT'S the way the PSP films should be. They should be free downloads once you buy the film anyway so you can watch it when you travel. Fuck the UMDs for $20

but I won't be using my PSP for anything for a while. Someone at work decided to fuck with it and drop it on the floor today and thry smashed the screen.

Yeah, Extinction. Whatever movie it is :)

The Blu-Rays are on sale at Wal-Mart and with your purchase you get an online code to download the film for your PSP.

Do you have a link to confirm this? I haven't heard anything about downloading RE:E to the PSP, considering that there's a UMD on sale for that film.

Edit: forget it, I found the link myself. And the code also allows a download to your PC, so PBF can enjoy it as well. ;)

Then there's this via Gizmodo:
Financial Times is reporting that Paramount has a clause in its HD DVD exclusivity contract allowing them to bail from the sinking HD DVD ship if Warner defected to Blu-ray, and they are "poised" to do so.

Warner's switch already put 70 percent of Hollywood's output on Blu-ray—Paramount rolling Blu-ray too would leave Universal and Dreamworks as the last major studios in the HD DVD camp, promptly and undoubtfully closing the books on HD DVD's future in Hollywood. Imagine: Michael Bay is sipping a mojito somewhere with a smile on his face. [Financial Times]

Thank God this format war is ending soon. I didn't care who won as long as one beat the other one out quickly. It's just a bonus it's for the format I chose. :)

It's not just about clarity, or even storage. Blu-ray discs are also much more durable than ordinary DVD's. Ever rent a DVD, only to have to start skipping halfway through? That's happened to me too many times that I gave up renting DVD's.

I have yet to have a blu-ray rental skip on me yet.
