Redbones in Davis square has decent BBQ and a good beer selection. Hit the downstairs bar or try to get a table down there.

Another place in Davis that I used to go to all the time is The Burren. Live Irish fiddle music in the evenings. Food is good (not amazing). Go there for the atmosphere... maybe after dinner at redbones.

Joshua Tree
is another good place to hang out for a few beers. Lots of young college girls there to leer at. Have had food there a few times. Edible, but nothing spectacular

Red Sox are home vs. Cleveland the 2nd half of that week...a ticket should be easy to grab on the street for not too much...
If you venture into Boston the north end has GREAT food..There are easily 20 little restaurants you could hit for great italian food.
And being from Chicago? You can't go wrong with seafood...if you like it...You could go High class or low....but either way you are going to find some very tasty stuff...as others said, use YELP.

No, it's really not.
The Peoples' Republik of Cambridge is nothing like Boston.
Plenty of good places to eat and catch a show or two in Central Square on Mass Ave. Stick to that area, and stay the fuck out of East Cambridge.

While "Moscow On The Charles" does have it's own flavor, to us here in NH, everything from Saugus to RI is "Boston." Just miles and miles of funny-talking assholes. :action-sm

Oh FFS - WHY does everyone think RedBones is good? It's a terrible, horrible excuse for BBQ. You want good BBQ? Go to Blue Ribbon on Mass Ave in Arlington. You want GREAT BBQ? Go to the Pit Stop in Mattapan.

What's the beer selection like at Blue Ribbon? Oh yeah, that's right, Arlington is a dry town.

Blue ribbon is excellent, but red ones is still good and you can have a few excellent beers while you are there.

It's not about the beer, it's about the OMFGBBQ RedBonez is the BESSSSSSSSSST!!11! Ugh. People around here have no idea how good GOOD BBQ is, and how bad RedBones really is. It's as bad as Hilltop.

where did anyone here type that? I said it was decent.

If I am getting BBQ for lunch, I will go to Blue Ribbon. I miss the days of going on the Quad Cycles Saturday road rides and then hitting BR afterward. If I am going out to dinner with friends, we would go to Redbones so we can have a few beers along with our BBQ, enjoy the music, and point/laugh at the hipsters.

I never clarified - people around Boston that don't know any better think RedBones is the best BBQ this side of everywhere.

I can definitely agree there. IMO, RB is passable. Especially if you want to hang out for a while. Not sure if he's still there or not, but Bryce at the downstairs bar was the man. Never had to wait for a drink when he was working. When I lived up there, we would go there after our Thursday night rides in the Fells. I also liked that they had a free bike valet. Never wanted to leave an expensive bike on the roof of my car in Davis.
