I realize the movie's 3 years old, but it seems much more relevant now after just a few years.

-Same director as GoT episode 'Blackwater'
-Davos Seaworth's in it (also Dominic West and TWD Governor)
-Tons and tons of those awesome nordic landscapes like the ones seen north of the Wall in GoT s2 & s3
-...and in Vikings. Let's be honest, it's not a bad show but that's the coolest part about it
-The Celtic people it's mostly about are the Picts, who lived in Scotland, and though they're not pillaging in longboats, they're depicted as extremely viking-esque

It's spot-on for everything we've been seeing in this recent GoT/Vikings/Skyrim trend. From the icy landscapes to the settlements and structures, tattooed Nordic savages and even Serpent Stones.

I searched and didn't find a thread but figured it deserved one, if only to make the recommendation more visible.

Yeah, this movie is a fucking blast. Oodles of splattery gore, manly acting from Fassbender and West, and super-hot Olga Kurylenko.

Neil Marshall made an incredible horror movie called THE DESCENT, then he made a shitty MAD MAX/ ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK rip-off called DOOMSDAY. So I'm glad to see him back on form with this one.

I'm pretty sure he got the GoT gig as a result of this movie. And he was also a last-minute replacement, as the original "Blackwater" director dropped out for a family emergency.

Marshall definitely knows what the fuck he's doing when it comes to staging medieval battles.

I was thrilled when I heard he was directing that episode.

I can only imagine what a great CONAN movie he would have made if he had accepted that gig, because apparently he was asked to do it.

Made a post about it in "Last Movie You Watched". A really goddam great movie that slipped under the radar. Solid, and sets up for a sequel that'll never happen. Very much enjoyed it.

It's just a really solid meat-and-potatoes action flick that's fun, violent and doesn't outstay its welcome.

I felt the same way about DREDD.

I assume it wasn't released in North America?

It was probably a limited release thing.

If it had come out a year later they could have capitalised on Fassbender's higher profile, but they kind of missed the boat on that.

Oh, and check this out.

Both are very Frazetta-like. But it just goes to show that marketing is probably the least creative aspect of the film industry these days.

Not just these days. Posters especially, always had trends they went through. I think it's become trendy to have trends, or something like that.

So does Olga get naked in this? Her movies are useless unless her tits make an appearance

Sadly her B Cups do not appear in the movie. Though via the storyline, she was forced to watch her Mother rap3d and family murdered, and then had her tongue cut out (cgi shows the long healed wound). Which may or may not be 'hot' depending on your taste in arousing material.

Can't win them all.

Go in with the thought that the slit can throw down. Big ass fight at the end where she holds her own against the Men. She's a good actress, and doesn't have one spoken word the entire movie. Very underrated flick.

I been watching it. I liked that limp wrist axe swing to take that guys head off. She swings an axe like old people fuck

Yeah, that one was shithouse but she's pretty fucking great in the other action stuff. Her fight with McNulty is bad-ass.

She's not the only hottie in the movie. You also get Marshall's wife Axelle as one of the celts (the Nordic goddess-looking one with the bow and arrow) and Imogen Poots as the nominal love interest.

I saw this when it came out. It was better than the other recent movies involving Roman soldiers (except Gladiator, of course).

I hear that IRONCLAD is pretty good. I saw a hilarious compilation video of all the outrageous gore scenes.
Ironclad is great, but it's medieval, not Roman. Speaking of medieval, there's also Black Death (2010), which is even better.

Yeah, I liked BLACK DEATH a lot. Not much action, despite what the promo materials would have you believe. It's much more a religious drama.

If you liked it you may also dig a very creepy Finnish horror movie called SAUNA. They have similar settings and themes.

Is Centurion the same story as The Eagle?

I think the journey is very similar, even if the goal is different.
