Nicole Cogdell said she never thought about race while working for fashion retailer Wet Seal until the day she saw an email from a company vice president stating the King of Prussia branch had too many African-American employees and that Cogdell was not the “right” manager for the store.

“For someone to say, ‘We want someone with blonde hair and blue eyes,’ after how hard I had worked and how hard my team had worked, yes it was shocking,” said the 41-year-old Chester resident.

Cogdell, who is part of a federal class action lawsuit pending against Wet Seal, received a boost last week when the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission found her former employer had violated her civil rights.

“I have determined that the evidence obtained during the investigation establishes … (Cogdell) was subjected to a hostile work environment and the conditions were so intolerable, her only recourse was to resign,” Spencer H. Lewis, director of the EEOC’s Philadelphia district office, wrote on behalf of the commission.

Cogdell left the company in 2009 and now works for the City of Chester as a community liaison to Mayor John Linder.

“I feel justified and I’m pretty happy,” she said when asked about the EEOC’s findings. “I’ve been waiting three years — it’s just been a really long time. … Basically everything I said, the EEOC was able to find. I was pretty elated about it.”

Cogdell and co-plaintiffs Myriam Saint-Hilaire and Kai Hawkins are suing Wet Seal for violating section 1981 of the Civil Rights Act of 1866, which prohibits race-based employment discrimination. They are seeking lost wages, benefits and other damages, as well as workplace reforms by Wet Seal.

Saint-Hilaire previously worked at the King of Prussia store and Hawkins at Wet Seal locations in California, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Now reverse the races and it's called affirmative action.

My kid wasn't hired for a job because he's white and not a female.

Worked hard huh, I guess she took this job and banked on getting lawsuit paid. What the hell is a community liaison and why would anyone pay someone for that. If I didnt know better it sounds like she has a little something going on with mayor John

She's basically a "community organizer", and her job is to hand out FREE SHIT! to the givesmedats in "her community"... the taxpayers pay her to hand out their tax dollars on Mayor Johnny's behalf.

I just thought of a great shakedown scam.

You're a vice president with a company and you know you're going to be laid off, downsized, whatever. What you do is go find a black manager at the company to go into cahoots with you... I love that word... cahoots. You work a deal with them... I'll send you an e-mail memo telling you to fire some of the schvoogies because we want white faces working for our company. Do your hear? WHITE FACES! The manager pretends to get all OUTRAGED! and makes a stink. You get fired(you were out the door anyway), and the black manager gets a big payday aka reparations aka hits the racial discrimination lottery... and you split the jackpot 50-50. Winner winner chicken dinner.

The perfect crime.

Then you get to try and collect your half. Good luck.

Spend the company into bankruptcy in lawyer's fees defending it, fire everybody, and pay her nothing at the end of it all.
