MONTEREY PARK, Calif. (KABC) -- A suspect armed with a crowbar was shot outside of a Carl's Jr. restaurant in Monterey Park on Monday morning.

Authorities say the incident began with the suspect breaking windows at Carl's Jr. in the 1200 block of Avenida Cesar Chavez just before 9:30 a.m. The suspect then walked inside, while workers and customers ran outside.

Police arrived as the suspect was exiting the fast-food restaurant. After repeatedly telling the suspect to drop the weapon, the suspect was Tasered.

Police said the Taser was ineffective, and the suspect swung the three-foot metal bar at officers twice. At least one officer opened fire on the suspect.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

No one else was injured in the incident. The officer-involved shooting is under investigation.

Little more info... they shot him 10 times...

MONTEREY PARK, Calif. (KTLA) -- Police shot and killed a man Monday as he allegedly threatened an officer with a metal bar outside a Carl's Jr. restaurant.

The shooting happened about 9:30 a.m. at Carl's Jr. restaurant near the intersection of Cesar Chavez Boulevard and Atlantic Avenue.

Officers responded to a report that a man was breaking windows at the restaurant.

When the officers arrived, they saw people running out of the restaurant, according to a news release issued by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

A man walked out of the restaurant holding a three-foot-long metal bar, police said.

Officers ordered the man to drop the bar and he refused. One of the officers shocked the man with a Taser, to little effect.

The man then came toward the officers and swung the bar twice, according to the news release.

That's when the officers shot the man.

One officers shot the man five times, and a second officer shot the man five more times after he fell to the pavement.

Paramedics rushed him to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Sheriff's homicide detectives are now investigating the shooting.

A video posted on YouTube captured the entire incident.

The video clearly shows two deputies trying to get the man to drop the metal bar, and the man ignores them.

The video does not show the man actually swing the metal bar at officers.

A woman sitting across the street in another fast food restaurant was hurt by shattered glass believed to have been caused by a stray bullet.

No one else was injured.

Justified. Something like that could really fuck someone up, and he went to swing it at a cop's head.

Watched the video.. it looked like the guy was getting ready to swing at the officer who didnt seem to have his gun out. Then his partner lit him up.. if he hadn't that cop would have been hit with whatever that bar was.

The only thing that cop might get fucked for is the second burst of 5 shots. It looks as if the suspect was on his way down to the ground when he started shooting again. I don't blame him for doing it, but I fear that this will somehow turn around and fuck him.

Edit: What fucking shitty taser was that???

Eh, completely justified. Granted it looks brutal, and maybe he went a tad overboard on the shots....but that was probably more a product of adrenaline than it was wanting to shoot the guy X times. He probably didn't even know how many shots he fired at first.

Sadly, the yokels don't really understand that and think everything is like the movies.

Robert Duncan O'Finioan could've disarmed and subdued that man in the blink of an eye and then twisted his crow bar into the shape of a butterfly like a balloon animal.

Yep. Lethal weapon within it's effective range = you get shot.

You'd be surprised how often this happens in self-defense shootings - officer involved or civilian. The adrenaline dump people often get in these situations really screws with your perceptions. 21 feet looks like 7. 2 seconds feels like 30. You swear you fired 2 shots, but your 13 round magazine is empty...

Yup. Once someone is in a situation where they're forced to fire on someone you can't really expect them to reevaluate the decision mid-event. Training focuses on making the right initial decision to fire, and hitting the target after that decision has been made. Their mentality is stop the other person, or something really bad is going to happen.

Good riddance. This was clearly suicide by cop... what kind of asshole takes a swing with a battleaxe at a cop and doesn't think he's gonna get lit up?
