Cunt goes to Jail...

And she's sitting in jail. Every single person involved in this whole deal is a fucking asshole except maybe the judge. These activists don't want "marriage equality". They want to be victims. They could go to the next county over (which in KY is about a 15 minute drive) and get a license. But we have a cult of victimhood here that makes people ASPIRE to be victims.
Thats true, if they wanted marriage equality, they would have fought to get government out of the marriage business so this kind of thing wouldn't even be an issue. Also are these people fighting for polygamy to be legalized? I think not! Those poor Mormons still have to go to Mexico to get married

Rosa Parks didn't win her fight. It was Aurelia Bowder, an NAACP activist, who refused to give up her seat nine months before Rosa Parks, who won her suit in federal court, and made bus segregation illegal. And the people who actually won the fight for her were a couple of lawyers from Virginia: activism tourists who went down South to stand up to local bigotry.

Exactly the same as in this case.
You're not going to Norm me on this one. The legal battle has been won and the winners are still being assholes.

They GOT what they claimed they wanted. But now they must personally destroy everyone who disagrees with them.

Have to agree with Kirk here. This seems to me to set a standard of selective prosecution. This chick who denied the marriage licenses absolutely should have been fired, but the actual imprisonment reeks of facisim.
Selective prosecution? You think other people could get sued, lose the lawsuit, and just tell the judge "no, sorry, not gonna obey your ruling"? You really believe this woman is the only person to be tossed in jail for doing that?

And she couldn't just be fired. If the judge had the power to fire her, he would have. He's a judge, not her boss. He has the power to throw people in jail, he doesn't have the power to fire them.

It's not fascism. It's a constitutional republic, where we have a judicial system that has the power to enforce the constitution over government officials. The only tool they have, for exercising that power, is to throw officials who refuse to obey court rulings in jail.

It's without that judicial power that we would have an out of control government: the definition of fascism.

So when a Muslim DMV clerk refuses to give a driver license to a woman or refuses to register a car to a Jewish person, your response would be, "They could go to the next county over (which in KY is about a 15 minute drive) and get a license or a registration," right?

Look, IMO, it's pretty clear the left gets treated differently from the right when it comes to who pays and who skates. Remember the reporter in DC Who possessed highly illegal high capacity magazines for a "demonstration"? Never prosecuted.

All I'm saying is if you reversed the politics in this situation and someone refused to grant something over a leftist tenet, the situation would very likely be handled differently. At the very least, the court of public opinion would have a very different reaction.

Also note that some of the same people who are ecstatic over the imprisonment of this woman are the same people that think Mumia should be freed. Again, I think this woman absolutely should have been fired for not doing her job (she must have had a boss and if that boss didn't take the appropriate action, why isn't he/she in jail also?")l

She is in an elected position so she can't be fired, they would have to impeach her or wait for election time and see what happens. This is one of the situations where progressives do not want to leave it up to mob rule democracy that they love to praise when its in their favor. Gay marriage couldn't even get passed in a far left place like California when they left it up to democracy. Most states that legalized gay marriage was not done through a vote.

Ok my mistake if I misread and it was an elected position. I thought she was just some kind of clerk that was refusing.

Everyone else that is convicted of contempt of court goes to jail. Why shouldn't this dummy? She was told multiple times by the court that she had to comply and issue the licenses. She refused to obey the court's order. She willingly chose jail time over complying with the ruling. If she didn't want to give the gays their licenses and didn't want to go against her faith, then she should have stepped down.

Not true, the punishment that was put in place for not handing out the license is a fine. The judge decided that she had too much money to be motivated by the fine so he came up with unrelated charges to imprison her. This isn't hyperbole, the judge actually said that the fine would not motivate her to change her mind so he came up with something so he could throw her in jail.

Its like when the cops don't like that you are taping them but its not illegal so they arrest you for some BS like interfering with government business.

The judge who sent her to jail is a Bush appointee. It's not a right vs. left thing. That judge would've sent anyone who declared that they're not gonna obey his ruling to jail. Makes no difference who it was, or what the ruling was. Jail is the automatic penalty for that. That's why government officials obey court rulings.

Without that power, the judiciary would have absolutely no oversight over government officials. You could sue the government, win, and then nothing would happen.

This is how retarded you are. You want the government to respect people's rights, but your cry fascism when a government official is sent to jail for violating private citizens' rights. All because some talking head told you that's what you're supposed to say.

If the state is going to exist, it should only exist to protect the rights of the people. When you get government involved with things like marriage you are going to have someones rights violated. This situation is a perfect example, the state threatens this lady with imprisonment if she refuses to violate her conscious. The answer is to get government out of the marriage business so no ones is forced to do anything.

You don't see the silliness of it? You are imprisoning someone and violating their rights to supposedly protect the rights of someone else. Its typical statist lunacy.

One reason government got involved with handing out marriage licenses is because the democrats didn't want blacks and whites getting married. So why keep around an institution that was partially created for racist reasons.

How about if you are this much of a religious nut bag, get a job at a church and not where you might have to do things that you believe are immoral.

As an Ewok-identifying American, I refuse to issue marriage licenses to imperial stormtroopers.

Nonsense. No one is forcing her to work for the government. If she announced that she's quitting her government job because it's not compatible with her conscience (that's the word you were looking for there, you blithering idiot), she'd be let out of jail immediately.

What she wants to do is keep her job, but not actually do it.

Imprisoning criminals is a violation of rights now?
