You are imprisoning someone and violating their rights to supposedly protect the rights of someone else.
She's personally violating the civil rights of everyone in her county that's trying to get married. She's not simply refusing to do the work or sign her name. That would be one thing. She's refusing to allow anyone else the authority to do the work. People in her county literally cannot get married without her or an authorized (by her) deputy clerk's approval. (Of course, it shouldn't be like that, but that's a separate issue.) She's consciously and deliberately acting not as a non-participant but as a roadblock.

The word rights is thrown around way too much. A right is something you could do if you were all alone on an island. You couldn't get a marriage license on an island. You could speak, you could worship a rock, you could defend yourself... If you have to force someone else to do something against their will to get it done, that is not a right.

The roles are just being reversed. In the past the bender may have been locked up for sodomy but now the ones who would have locked up the sodomite are the ones being locked up for their beliefs. The one thing they have in common is its done through the state. So just get the state out of the matter all together.

She openly and willingly broke the law based on her personally held religious beliefs. One in her position cannot cherry pick the law as she sees fit because of how she (lawfully) chooses to live outside of her position. You dont have to agree, you dont have to like it, but you are legally obligated to sign that piece of paper regardless if you believe there is a magic man in the sky frowning on other peoples lives based on how they choose to live. Dont like it? Tough titties. Find a job more suited to your way of life and let someone abide by the systemic rules.

Again, there are people in that office willing to sign whatever voluntarily, but the bitch in question is withholding the authorization necessary. She isn't using force, but she is using deprivation and loophole abuse to prevent the voluntary actions of others. And she can't simply be fired because she's an elected official. In the current system (which I would like to see abolished) she's left everyone involved no real choice.

She took a job working for "the state". She swore an oath to do the job that "the state" needed of a person in her position. Speaking of swearing an oath, she broke that oath, sworn on a bible. Isn't that a sin to the religious types like her?

You do what the boss tells you to do or you get the fuck out of the way so someone else who wants to do it can.

She did take an oath to the state. The state did not vote on gay marriage, it was forced on them by the feds. If you don't believe in states rights then you can go along with your position but if you think states have rights then its the feds that are breaking the law for forcing it on the state.

I've said it before, they pick and choose when states get to have rights. If its involving something that is actually in the constitution like guns, the state are free to do whatever they want. Chicago and DC was free to ban the 2nd for 20 some years. If its a progressive held value, like abortion or gay marriage, the states all of a sudden lose the right to decide for themselves.

In this case the boss is the voters so by your reasoning, the voters should get to decide. They can vote her out our impeach her.

Its still not a right even if those people do it voluntarily. The department they are in is funded by the tax payers that do not have a choice but to fund it. Government can't hand out rights.

And when a judge tells you multiple times to hand out licenses and you refuse, it's called contempt of court. Which can, and often does land one in jail. Don't like the idea of going to jail? Hand out the licenses or let someone else do it.

In the United States marriage is more of a legal joining of people than a religious one. You can get married without the church, but not without the license.

This bitch has the same right to refuse a marriage license to a gay couple as a fry cook at McDonald's has to refuse a fat person a Big Mac. Doing your job isn't about your personal beliefs. If your personal beliefs are being compromised at work, you are in the wrong job b.

So you would be perfectly happy to live under Sharia Law if government agents in your county decided to force that upon you as long as it didn't effect your speech, worship, and defense?

Huckabee to join rally for clerk opposed to gay marriage

By DYLAN LOVAN 4 hours ago

  • Mike Huckabee to Hold Rally for Kentucky Clerk Kim Davis

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Presidential candidate and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee will join protesters at a Tuesday rally outside the jail where a Kentucky clerk is locked in a cell over her refusal to issue marriage licenses to gay couples.
Huckabee plans a private meeting with Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis, who was jailed by a federal judge Thursday after defying several court orders. Her lawyers spent Labor Day weekend filing appeals in an effort to force her release, but she remains there on a contempt charge.

Huckabee, a former Baptist minister who often reaches out to religious conservatives, says Davis is simply exercising her religious freedom by denying the marriage licenses.

Davis' jailing offers the many Republican presidential candidates an opportunity to appeal to the GOP's evangelical Christian wing, which opposes same-sex marriage and casts Davis' imprisonment as an issue of religious freedom. Not all the Republican White House hopefuls see it Huckabee's way, however.

Huckabee's visit comes a day after Davis filed yet another appeal in the hopes of being released. Her attorneys asked for an order to have Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear accommodate Davis' "religious conviction," and not force her to grant licenses to gay couples.

The same request was denied last month by U.S. District Judge David Bunning, who jailed Davis.

If the latest request is granted by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, Beshear would have to allow Davis to remove her name and title from official marriage certificates issued in Rowan County.

By doing that, Davis would not be sanctioning any same-sex unions and her conscience would be satisfied, her attorneys say.

Her lawyers have also appealed Bunning's ruling that landed her in jail.

On Monday, about 30 protesters lined the sidewalk outside Bunning's home in Fort Thomas, Kentucky, carrying signs that read "Free Kim Davis." Fort Thomas Police Lt. Casey Kilgore said the group gathered around 2 p.m., and the protest stretched on for several hours.

Davis, an apostolic Christian, says gay marriage is a sin. She also says it would be a sin for her to issue a marriage license to a same-sex couple because the licenses are issued under her authority. She tried in vain to have state lawmakers change the law as a legal challenge to Kentucky's same-sex marriage ban wound its way through the federal appeals court.

Davis stopped issuing all marriage licenses in June the day after the U.S. Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage nationwide. Two gay couples and two straight couples sued her. Bunning ordered Davis to issue the licenses, and the Supreme Court upheld his ruling.

But Davis still refused to do it, saying she could not betray her conscience or God. Bunning ruled Thursday that Davis was in contempt of court and sent her to jail. Her deputy clerks — except for her son, Nathan Davis — then issued marriage licenses to gay couples Friday with Davis behind bars.

Exactly. The same-sex couples she's personally preventing from getting married are forced to pay her salary. They're being coerced into paying equally for unequal returns.

And people are forced to pay for gay marriage. Cycle of state lunacy, only solution is removing the state from the marriage process.

People without kids have to pay for your kids school. People who aren't married and do not believe in marriage still have to pay for you to get married. People with jobs who don't qualify for certain welfare programs are paying for something they can't use and the ones using it are not even paying for it. So people are forced to pay equally for something they do not or can't use all the time.

Government has no right to force anything on anyone. The government can't force her to sanction gay marriage and government can't force them not to have a pointless ceremony. Take government out of the marriage business.
