I hate to start a new thread, but..

I'm driving up from Cleveland for the Detroit show. I STILL don't have a hotel. The existing thread is a big mess. We were fortunate enough to have NortonNFriends plan out the Cleveland show for the pests last year..

So now that it's so close:

Are there any plans for pre-show get togethers, post show parties and what is the hotel most people (if anyone??!) are staying at? Those of use who are traveling to the show and are not familiar with the area need some details.

I'm over here now.

You could play "cotton picking golfer" before the show.

Just sayin'...............

There are a few nice hotels in Auburn Hills/Rochester. Specifically on Opdyke (or opendyke - right off of 75) because the Superdome was there. There is also a 5 star hotel in Rochester Hills right off of main street. This is all like 10 minutes away from the venue.
These hotels are just south of the Palace of Auburn Hills
I don't know of any nice hotels North of the Palace of Auburn Hills... but i'm sure there are some.

I got a room reserved at the Hampton Inn

1461 N Opdyke Rd, Auburn Hills, MI 48326

Just down the street from the Comfort Suites I see others are staying at.

I am driving up from Chicago Saturday morning, is there a good location we can meet up beforehand and drive into DTE together so we are all parked in the same location for the tailgate?

Here is some info my friend who used to work for the Palace said about the area, hotels, the police, etc.

"Yo. The hotels along Opdyke are OK…not great (the Hilton Suites is the best). The area is on the cusp of Pontiac – not great. There’s many hotels along Opdkye…and you’re 10 minutes from DTE. I’m not aware of the hotel situation in Clarkston.

I have not been to The Hills Bar. Rochester Rd. is a main strip and there’s lots of businesses. Downtown Rochester was always my hangout (off Rochester Rd.).

Each of these little cities has their own police. There’s always lots of cops. Do not drive buzzed. Get a cab in advance. Have the hotel help. Cabs are not easy to find in metro Detroit (it’s not Chicago for sure). A shuttle may be the best bet (if there’s a large group). Rochester Rd. (where you’ll be) is not real close to I-75. Opdyke is about 10 minutes from downtown Rochester…and you’ll likely travel via Walton, I-75, or 59 (I think). DTE is north off I-75 (not too far from the exit).

I have been to plenty of events…but, I worked there. I never got blasted or tailgated. I think it’s fairly casual if you have plastic cups. I know Buffet and Ozz-Fest are drunk-fests."

YEAH! Wait. What?

Great Lakes Crossing is a gigantic mall thats about five miles from Sashabaw Rd (DTE exit). It is right off I-75 and about five miles from the hotels on Opdyke Rd.
We could have a pest rendezvous in the lot there and carivan over to the theater.

my boyfriend and i are also staying at the hampton in on n opdyke. i think we paid $110.00/night. I caleld DTE and was told by the woman i spoke with that we could start tailgaiting at 4.30. no alcohol allowed so bring some keg cups and you should be alright.

Good idea. I am all for meeting at the mall parking lot before driving up to DTE. That way we are all able to park together making for a better tailgate set up. If there are folks wanting to possibly do a carpool from the Hampton Inn or Comfort Suites to minimize the number of drivers wanting to consume many beverages to avoid :jail2: and then also want to go to the Hills Bar afterward, let me know.

Wish we could get enough people to get a shuttle bus or cabs to go to DTE, then Hills Bar, then back to hotel.

Yeah, there are a few good bars on that strip. I've been to the pool hall/dance club/bar so many damn times. Also the irish pub across the street. I'm living on Walton across the street from OU for another month, so it's an easy trip for me

As far as the hotels on Opdyke... they are ok. Nothing special. Just hotels off the side of a highway and a block away from Pontiac. Don't get lost in Pontiac. I've done that once trying to find the bus station. It's god damn scary.

Detroit is home to 3 Casinos! plus on more across the river in Windsor, Ontario
MGM Grand Detroit:
Location: 1300 Lodge Service Drive, Detroit
Phone: 313-393-7777

The MGM Grand Detroit offers a similar ambiance to it's Las Vegas cousin. This casino offers a variety of creative promotions, many of which don't actually require gambling. It has a wide-open and bright layout, but does not offer a non-smoking floor (there are non-smoking tables though). Dealers are friendly and will take the time to explain games to novice patrons. MGM also offers a good selection of dining and nightlife options.
Motor City:
Location: 2901 Grand River Ave., Detroit
Phone: 313-237-7711

The Motor City leads the way in two key areas: comps for high rollers and fine dining. Signature members are able to get tickets for performances and sporting events, trips to area spas and other perks from the concierge. Iridescence is a AAA four-diamond restaurant and Motor City also has a great buffet. The third floor is entirely non-smoking. They offer a shuttle service throughout much of the Detroit area, including suburbs.
Greektown:
Location: 555 E. Lafayette Ave., Detroit
Phone: 888-771-4386

Greektown Casino is the one best-integrated with downtown Detroit and was voted the best casino in the area in 2004 by Detroit Free Press readers. Greektown frequently runs imaginative promotions and has creative decor with Greek statues and murals. The Alley Grille offers good food, but patrons are encouraged to visit other restaurants in the Greektown area. Convenient parking and access via the People Mover provide easy access.
Casino Windsor:
Location: 377 Riverside Drive E., Windsor, Ontario
Phone: 800-991-7777

Casino Windsor offers a permanent site (as opposed to the Detroit "temporary" casinos) with an attached hotel that provides 24-hour room service. The AAA four-diamond hotel also offers an indoor pool and beauty salon. Unique to Windsor are a lower minimum age of 19 (rather than 21 in Detroit) and an exchange rate that gives you more Canadian money for your American dollars allowing you to play longer.

so as far as i've seen in the other thread here is how things stand:

hydrocephaloid has bags, washers, and ladder balls that he can bring

shittingmidget has a grill and an awning (tell 'em about the discoutn harry) and dogs, buns, pop

Chernabog also has an awning.

I'll bring some chairs (if people are interested we could also bring some decks of cards and card tables for whatever card games we might want to play). I'm also going to bring some hot dogs and buns and things of that nature. I don't have that many chairs so i think it would be smart to bring some if you have some just to accomodate people who aren't on the boards but want to hang out

If anyone else has suggestions or if anyone I mentioned can't bring what they said they would for any reason let me know so we can find someone else with the cool shit that you're too mean to bring :action-sm

this might be totally fucking gay but i was thinking about bring name tags so we could put our silly wackbag names on their or else no one will know anyone and we'll be running around like chickens with our heads cut of LOL!!!!
but if thats stupid tell me and i'll punish myself accordingly

I can bring additional chairs and some poker chips. I have a 4 deck shoe if Ant wants to stop by to play a few hands of blackjack :icon_lol:

Seriously, any other food items? Perishable items made with eggs excluded of course.

Nametags, hmm. I can imagine there will be some interesting uses and places those name tags may go. ;)

I'm guessing you won't need a name tag... girl with boyfriend and 75 other guys..

I can bring condiments (not condoms shit dicks - on your own there), chips, and a couple chairs. Will be driving up in the morning.

I'm down to bring food and drink. And Krisko, nametags are really not a bad idea. I'd bring em, if for nothing else we'll use em for comedic value. If the coordinators need me to bring some shit PM me.

Will throw some footballs in the trunk.

I can pick up a pack of cups too. I might have missed it, but is someone actually bringing a keg or will people be fancy and bring their own beverages to pour into plastic cups? :)

Also, I saw something about meeting up at a nearby mall near the hotels prior to driving in, any update on that (time, location?). I am up for meeting up beforehand and driving in. Me and the finance' (yes another girl will be there!) are staying at the Hampton Inn on Opdyke.

Finally, I saw someone is bringing a grill, do we need another grill? I can also bring another canopy/tent thing (yes, tell'em about the discount Harry :action-sm)

Can't wait for next weekend.

Caravan meeting

Ok I'll take the point on this.
Meeting at Great Lakes Crossing Mall
Meet btw 3:30pm and 4:00pm
Mall is at I-75 and Baldwin Rd in Aurburn Hills

*From I-75 North exit Baldwin Rd (exit 84B) there are signs

*From Opdyke Rd go north to E. Walton Rd
left on E. Walton to Baldwin Rd
Right on Baldwin Rd to mall

Once in mall lot we'll meet in front of Bass Pro Shop
(because thats the only store I know in the mall)

Mall is less than 10 miles from theatre- we'll leave the mall @ 4:00pm

If you're going to meet here for sure let me know so we don't bail on anybody
