WOW! What a great fuckin movie! I had to drive to Elizabeth to see it because it's only in a few theatres, but it was worth the ride. It's a movie within a movie. I really got absorbed into the ride George is taking everyone on. There were people talking to the camera like a documentary but NOTHING like Blair Witch because they had REAL cameras (and they showed them off proudly) and they were film students who knew how to hold a camera steady. They loaded their footage into Final Cut and then uploaded it so people would know the real truth. (typical insightful social commentary by Romero given the news coverage of Afghanistan/Iraq) There were also alot of funny parts, alot of body parts, nice cameos. The fuckin Amish guy cracked me up. Also good were the black militants who horded EVERYTHING and finally had "the power"! Man this movie is seriously one of the greatest horror films of all time. There was actually suspense in a zombie film! That's not easy to do.

My favorite Zombie flick used to be Dawn Of The Dead1978 but now I'm not so sure anymore. The market has been saturated with zombie flicks so there's alot to choose from. I'll take the slow, plodding, wormy zombies anyday over the running dead we've had to deal with lately.

George has raised the bar and raised your dead Grandma once again. Definitely worth the 8.00 and the fatty sack. I can't wait for the next installment!

I doubt a zombie movie could make me want to suck balls. I'm not saying I wouldn't suck dick over any movie (there were a few last year that I would have happily swallowed), but a zombie movie?

Yes. These college kids are shooting a movie in the woods and the pushy director decides to document the whole dead rising phenomena, especially since the mainstream media is covering up the real story. The kid uses the internet, cellphone cams, TV footage and security cam footage to piece together a great documentary. This kid is so focused that while his friend is being attacked, he keeps shooting film. Luckily for the viewer he is so damn pushy & focused.

I've been making my way through his other dead movies these past few months. Dawn bored me the most, Day was definitely my favorite. Watched land the other day with meh hopes after some of the reviews but it was amazing. Really want to see this, but closest showing is a couple hours. Waiting for more releases or the dvd.

Are you talking about Dawn 1978? If so, you HAVE been hitting the crack pipe. Maybe it's just me but I remember being 10 years old seeing Dawn and it was my favorite movie throughout my childhood. At the time, it was the most shocking you could get! It still holds up pretty well today.

I'm going back today for a second viewing after a quick stop in Irvington for some more of that thick scrotum...

On paper, these lines from Day Of The Dead are pretty good actually:

Pvt. Steel: Lay off the fuckin' booze for a while why don't ya? And get somebody on that fuckin' horn, pronto!
McDermott: Well if we stay down here long enough I'll have to lay off the fuckin' booze Steel 'cause there won't fuckin' be any of it fuckin' left! In the meanwhile I will continue to indulge myself and I will continue doing my best in the good fight against dryrot and rust.

Pvt. Rickles: [laughing] That's it, Steel! Whip it out!
Pvt. Steel: Fuckin' A! Biggest piece of meat in the cave! I don't wanna frighten the lady, though, not with her boyfriend around.
Sarah: You're incapable of exciting me, Steel, except as an anthropologic curiosity.
Pvt. Steel: Oh, what the hell does that mean, Rickles?
Pvt. Rickles: It means you're a caveman, asshole! You're a fuckin' throwback! You've been spendin' too much time underground! It's okay, Steel - throwbacks all got big dicks!

I was really hoping that in Diary, some sick fuck would be fucking a corpse, like the mummy kid in the big mansion. He was acting really weird when he said his whole family & staff were "out in back".

Maybe in the next one....

Land of the Dead was released by Universal and always designed to be a Big Theatrical release and it made it's money back. Where as Diary of the Dead was originally supposed to be Direct to DVD and then it got bought by the Weinstein idiots who since leaving Miramax, completely forgot how to market a movie.

I'll be flat out honest with you.

I think that the Dawn remake (or reimagining, whatever it was) smokes the original Dawn so badly it's not even funny.

I'm not joking.

The original is *ok*. It's too long, and too much time is spent on character development. And that's coming from a guy who loves both long movies and character development. Way I judge it, the original started off strong, meandered for way too fucking long in the middle, and ended pretty strongly. The remake was pretty much visceral fun all the way through, though.

I saw a DVD copy of this available on another source than usual, (ARRRR!), and I figure I'll skip going out of my way just for a zombie flick, as much as I love and adore Romero's work, it's just not worth it.

I'm trying very patiently to wait for the DVD instead of downloading a lame bootleg copy. The DVD will probably have more unrated scenes anyway.

And yes, the original Dawn is the one i'm talking about. I usually refuse to watch horror remakes but since I got the remake with land at walmart I'll be checking it out soon. Don't care for remakes though.

Really? You liked the acting of the people? Bub was good but everyone else Subporn acting levels.
I think it's mostly the character clashes I love. Riley is a total dick, love the doctor. I like how they all clash. Acting seemed fine to me but I don't overly notice if it's a bit bad.

Romero can take this series as far as he wants. They're making a part ll and I wouldn't be suprised if this becomes like Friday the 13th and they make ten of these Diary's. The premise could be that people all over the web send in their videos of their families & coworkers being attacked & eaten. This really has potential, it's just unfortunate that the release is limited.
Why? Who knows, because this movie is better than most of the crap out there.

Not that I condone anything of an illegal nature or would do so myself, there is a torrent available that has 6 Romero movies on a certain site that sports a somewhat nautical theme, leaning towards the buccaneer type of maritime naughtiness.

I can't believe it. How the mighty have fallen. This shit was garbage. I turned it off after 20 minutes. I have never turned off a Romero flick, not even Bruiser, which stunk. The dialogue was godawful, the acting was atrocious, the characters were cardboard cutouts and their wasn't a single one I didn't want to strangle after 5 minutes. Not for one second did I believe anything happening was real, Cloverfield shames this film in that department. Even in the first 20 minutes, you can tell how hard Romero was trying to be socially relevant, with how everyone kept saying "we have to tell the truth" (what?!!!? wtf does that even mean? How do you lie about zombies? Is this supposed to reflect Bush lying about weapons of mass destruction? I don't get it). I think with Night and Dawn the "message" was more coincidence and throughout the years and interviews with people lauding him for these "messages" Romero probably felt like he had to say something profound in his future movies, and his last 2 zombie movies reflect that with heavy-handed nonsense. To me Dawn Of The Dead was always just a cool zombie movie that happened to take place in the mall, yeah there were knowing winks to consumerism, but I think all this shit got to his head and he's taking himself way too seriously. It's a fucking zombie movie for chrissakes. It wouldn't even be that annoying if this movie was any good.

This movie was painful to watch and I'm a lifelong horror and Romero fan. Hang up your boots George before you further embarrass yourself.
