Nick Diaz will get his shot to face Georges St-Pierre after all.

Following a dominant win over B.J. Penn at UFC 137, Nick Diaz has earned the next shot at the UFC welterweight title and will likely face GSP during Super Bowl weekend on Feb 4.

UFC President Dana White made the announcement at the post fight press conference.

“I’ve known GSP since 2004, he’s one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met. GSP flipped out tonight when Nick was in the ring. Nick needs motivation, he’s got it. He’s gonna fight GSP,” White stated.

“Carlos Condit has agreed to step aside. We’re hoping to do this Super Bowl weekend.”

A very happy Nick Diaz was more than happy to accept and promises St-Pierre a fight like he’s never seen before.

“There you go. I have to be that guy to get that fight. I have to be the bad guy,” Diaz stated.

As for St-Pierre, the world’s top welterweight is generally the coolest customer in the business, but Diaz has put a spur into him like no fighter ever has before.

“I’m going to give him an ass whooping like no one’s ever seen,” St-Pierre conveyed through UFC President Dana White.

Diaz was visibly beaten up after the fight with Penn so he will obviously have to get checked out and cleared, but assuming he’s healthy, he’ll get his chance to face Georges St-Pierre in the early part of 2012 in what could be one of the most anticipated fights in UFC history.

According to UFC President Dana White, Carlos Condit will also compete on the Super Bowl weekend card against another opponent. If successful, Condit will get the next shot at the UFC welterweight belt after Diaz.

I know everyone loves this guy, but how he is trying to spin that he has to be a dickhead in order to fight GSP is mind boggling to me. If the dumb asshole wouldnt have missed those press conferences he would have fought GSP last night. Cant wait to hear his excuse after GSP beats his ass.

You could see Dana dying to bring that up at the presser but couldn't bec GSP didn't fight last night afterall

Imagine if GSP did fight & they were both at the presser? That would have been great

I just hope diaz doesn't screw this up. Hopefully the odds are decent. I think Diaz is a bad match up for GSP. If the fight stays on the feet Diaz will pick gsp apart, and even if he gets hit he will still throw unlike Kos. If gsp decides to take the fight to the ground he won't have any trouble but once on the ground Diaz is slick off his back, unlike BJ diaz will be spending more time going for submissions. BJ just seems to lay and get pounded when fights gsp.
Either way Condit should be ready cause I don't have much faith in Nick.

This is going to be an awesome fight. GSP never losses his cool and Diaz did what Chael can only hope to do with AS, he got under GSP's skin.

I don't see Diaz winning, I'm thinking its going to be just like the Rory vs Nate fight, but I can't wait to see it. Will he take it to ground or keep it standing? Will he trash talk? Will he stay compose or is he going to let Diaz get inside his head and get into a brawl? GSP wanted nothing to do with Shields BJJ and Diaz's is just as good. GSP wanted nothing to with Hardy's stand up and Diaz has the best boxing in the WW division. The only weakness Diaz has is his wrestling, but his guard is so active that I could see Diaz outworking GSP on the ground, but GSP getting the round because he's on top.

Cesar Gracie:
UFC President Dana White announced in June that Diaz was leaving Strikeforce to return to the UFC. Diaz had been discussing an interest in boxing at the time, but Gracie said the UFC sweetened its offer to lure him into the Octagon. A multi-year, multi-fight contract was the result, with a title shot against St. Pierre scheduled for October, but of course that shot was nixed and apparently it affected Diaz’s pay.

“That’s a hard pill to swallow,” Gracie said. “I think it’s patently unfair. Myself, in my opinion, that’s unfair. I think Nick obviously knows it’s unfair, and these are talks we’re going to have with Dana White and with the UFC.”

White has already announced that Diaz will get the next crack at St. Pierre come next year, but Gracie said some details need to be worked out first.
Prepare for more bitching & moaning & maybe even more "no shows" as protest from Diaz side

I don't know if you all saw the released pay report, but it appears that Nate must have wanted guaranteed money because he didn't get a win bonus, just $200k.

200k

200 fucking thousand dollars.

If that stupid white trash piece of shit can't afford a house in a white neighborhood with a 200k payday then fuck him.

I will say it again.... Nick Diaz is a great fighter. But, outside of the cage, he might be on of the most worthless and dumb people in the world. He just doesn't get it.

He will get a LOT more than 200k
The "released" money isn't the full amount they receive & the figures do not include any additional undisclosed discretionary bonuses, pay-per-view revenue

Zuffa is a privately owned company & only has to report a minimum to NSAC & due to tax reasons they break the pay down to a very very low base

I am well aware of that,

However, I am saying that most fighters contracts have a "show" amount and they get double that if they win.

Diaz got 200k... not 100k (plus 100k win bonus)

In other words he would have been paid 200k win or lose.

Penn got 150k, but would have gotten 300k if he had won.

I am sure Diaz raked in quite a bit more in the locker room bonuses (unless the press conference bullshit really pissed Dana off)

OK, the above seemed like that is all you thought he made

The bonuses are written into his contract, its not at Zuffa's whim - although Dana has been known to give win bonuses sometimes for a close fight & of course he NEVER gets credit for doing so when people bitch about UFC fighter pay

I liked when Dana brought up to Cesar that the 6 flights Nick missed came out of Zuffa's pocket - Diaz & Gracie are fucking assholes to bitch about anything
