On Jay Mohr's podcast Jimmy saidthey hired him because Opie and Anthony were fighting way too much behind the scenes. I dunno if they hate each other but they are just extremely different, they would want to run the show differently and I think that friction can lead to some blowups. And now how many years have they been working together? It just all gets a bit old after a while.
Ever since Opie had that baby they don't even snuggle anymore. Ant would rather race home after the show and take his guns down to the shooting range, but 10-11 used to be their "Cuddle Hour." It makes Opie feel unattractive and he doesn't think he'll ever get that sexy V back no matter how many situps he does, but Ant doesn't seem to care. It's tragic, really.
That bit of bullshit that you just cited was originally spewed by Rick Delgado, the show's producer at WNEW, in a hit piece in Steppin' Out Magazine (written by long-time enemy of the show Chaunce Hayden). It was dispelled and mocked by Opie, Anthony, and Jimmy on the April 1, 2008 episode of the show. You can get it from Audible or iTunes.
Apparently Opie really liked Jill Nicollini & felt she was the perfect girl for Anthony to finally settle down & start a family with. It was during that relationship, where Opie eagerly finally planned a long desired return trip to Turks & Cacaos with their respective sweethearts when Opie found out that Anthony cheated on Jill with a Canadian (Opie hates Canadians as he is jealous of their national healthcare system, but that's another thread entirely). He confronted Anthony on his philandering ways & the two haven't been the same since. It's clear to everyone that Anthony has since created his basement studio as a way to break away from Opie & have his star finally shine brightest.
