My brother and his wife........just.....just F the shit hand they have been dealt by life.

My brother has his demons and has been in rehab for about three weeks. Alcohol. He knew he needed help, was willing to admit that he has a drinking problem and got checked into a rehab center. He created the situation and he's finally doing something about it.

About a week into rehab his wife has to check into the hospital. Her (transplanted over a decade ago) kidneys quit. A year and a half ago she suffered a severe stroke that pretty much did a Dick Clark on her. Stroke+kidney problems=an open door for other sicknesses. She has been in and out of consciousness for the last week or so and today, they found a fungal infection in her lungs.

Add a weak heart to the list of problems too.

Dr. asked the family to gather tonight to discuss what, if anything, can be done for her. There is a good chance that she might not make it through the weekend.

So they are going through all of the wedding vows that nobody wants to go through: poor, sickness, bad times and all that stuff. Makes the little shit we bitch about seem about as stupid as it really is.

Jesus, that shit fucking snowballed. Sorry, sir.

The only advice/comfort I can offer is to be there for your brother. If the situation keeps going south he is going to need you and your family more than ever to keep from going completely off the rails. It is not going to be smooth for a long time.

Good luck, dude, and godspeed. Thoughts and prayers and all that.

She is in her late 30s. He is in his late 40s.
Holy shit. That's pretty awful. Hope you and your family find the faith and strength to get through this.

Aw nertz.

Just got an update. She was already on what amounts to the most potent antibiotic available before the fungal infection set in on her. Dr. put her on something that has an outside shot of maybe working but probably won't do much. Unfortunately, that's the best hope available.

The odds of this ending well are not good at all.

Update: not dead.

She made a recovery and is no longer in intensive care. The medicine she was put on is working. Amazing. Absolutely amazing.

Not a complete recovery but things are on the right track.
