Major Nidal Hasan, the suspected Fort Hood shooter, has grown a beard, which violates army regulations. A judge told Hasan that if he doesn't shave it for his trial, then he could be forcibly shaved.

FORT HOOD, Texas — An Army psychiatrist charged with killing 13 people in a shooting rampage at Fort Hood will be forcibly shaved if he doesn't remove his beard himself, a judge said Wednesday.

Maj. Nidal Hasan appeared in court Wednesday sporting a beard as he did during a court appearance last month. The beard violates Army regulations, but Hasan said it is an expression of his Muslim faith.

The judge, Col. Gregory Gross, held Hasan in contempt of court for keeping the beard and fined him $1,000. Fort Hood spokesman Chris Haug said Gross gave Hasan the choice to shave on his own or be forcibly shaved sometime before his court-martial begins Aug. 20.

Hasan, 41, is charged with 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder in the November 2009 shootings. He faces the death penalty if convicted.

Until last month, he had been clean-shaven every time he attended court.

But since Hasan grew a beard, he and one of his attorneys have watched the pretrial hearings on closed-circuit television in a trailer near the courthouse. He refuses to shave, and Gross has indicated that Hasan might have to watch the court-martial from the trailer as well.

But on Wednesday, Gross said he wanted Hasan in the courtroom to prevent a possible appeal on the issue if Hasan is convicted, Waco television station KWTX reported.

It was not immediately clear what Hasan and his attorneys would do. The hearing was in recess after Gross found Hasan in contempt.

Hasan's defense attorneys argued that he had not shaved in observance of the holy Islamic month of Ramadan, KWTX-TV reported. Ramadan is expected to end just before the trial starts.

It's a court martial. The normal rules don't apply, so I'm guessing they can forcibly shave him.

I went to school with an Iranian. Morning classes he was clean. Late afternoon lab he was sporting quite a luxurious beard. This Hassan fucker can replace that beard in two days if they remove it.

Nidal Hasan, Fort Hood Shooting Suspect, Wants Murder Trial Moved Off Texas Army Post

FORT HOOD, Texas -- The Army psychiatrist charged in the 2009 Fort Hood shooting rampage wants his upcoming murder trial moved off the Texas Army post.
Maj. Nidal Hasan's attorneys also are expected Thursday to discuss their request for changes in the military jury pool.

It's unclear if the judge, Col. Tara Osborn, will rule on Hasan's motion to plead guilty to lesser murder charges that don't carry the death penalty. Prosecutors will proceed with the trial even if Osborn accepts those pleas, which are not part of any deal.

Hasan still faces execution if convicted of 13 counts of premeditated murder.

He wanted to plead guilty to those charges, but Army rules prohibit judges from accepting guilty pleas in death penalty cases.

Hasan also is charged with 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder.

Btw when did no facial or a neat well trimmed mustache become the only two facial hair options in the Army? During the Civil War pretty much all the soldiers, Generals included, all had bad ass beards and mustaches (see pix for examples). So like I said when did the Army change it's mind and say its a major no no.

These guys were both officers in the Civil War and both had fierce facial hair

Facial hair promotes the individual. Can't have that in the military. Just group think.

He lost the ability to call the shots when that female infidel shattered his spine with her service pistol. Fuck him. Dry shave him, feed him dinner, then have him stop by the gallows like Saddam did.
