Founder of Anti-Gang Group for At-Risk Teens Arrested in Connection with Shooting
Terrance Roberts, the founder of a group dedicated to keep at-risk youths out of street gangs, has been arrested in connection with a shooting in Denver on Friday. Roberts founded the Prodigal Son Initiative to stop youth violence and dissuade young people from getting involved in street gangs.

Roberts was arrested over a shooting that took place near his Park Hill office, being charged on suspicion of first-degree assault and attempted murder.

Roberts appeared before a judge just before noon on Saturday at the downtown detention center. As he exited the courtroom, he mouthed “I’ll be OK” to nine friends and family members in attendence [sic]…

Denver police offered few details about the shooting but said the victim was struck multiple times. A police spokesman said it was too soon to determine whether the shooting was gang-related.

Roberts’ antiviolence organization, the Prodigal Son, was scheduled to hold a unity rally in the area at the same time as the shooting.

Roberts spoke to the Huffington Post in June about his group’s goals and his personal past experiences with gun violence. He said in the interview, “When I hear loud bangs, I flinch. Those types of things––pretty much PTSD kind of trauma.”

You never want the guy that walked away to come out of retirement. It's always a problem

Not to take the unpopular side here but since he is involved with anti violence causes you can bet he has plenty of enemies that would like to see him gone. This could possibly be self defense

Of course it's self defense. But a self-professed champion of non-violence, and anti-gun violence, walking around armed is still the height of hypocrisy... even if he's armed for defensive and not offensive purposes.

That's why it's a matter of bravery and commitment when one goes and declares themselves an advocate of non-violence... because it's essentially a proclamation that you will no longer engage in any sort of violence or fight fire with fire.

An anti-gang group founder who sends the message that carrying a gun and shooting first is the only way to survive in the ghetto is sending a completely contradictory message to the goal of non-violence.

Any person who advocates non-violence is a silly person who should be locked up with the rest of the silly people.
