Well, this sucks.. my grandfather passed away peacefully in his sleep last night. He was just a couple of weeks shy of turning 97.

He lived through the great depression, was a staff sgt in the army air corps in the pacific, was shot out of the sky a few times, and was an awesome grandpa... im going to miss the shit out of him.

And to top it off, im trying to get home from a stupid biz trip on the west coast... fu giant storm.

Sorry for your loss, mister.

I regret that I wasn't at my grandfather's bedside when he passed... because I missed the opportunity to hold a pillow over his face.

My grandfather was a dick.

Condolences sir. My grandfather made it to 96 also.

He had a lot of interesting life stories to tell.

Was a merchant marine in the Pacific during WWI.

Lost a son in WWII. He was a hell of a guy.

I know how you feel.

Sorry to hear about that. I would like to make it to 96 if in good condition. It amazes the shit some people went through and lived into their nineties.

My step-grandfather died on Christmas Day about 15 years ago. It was early in the morning before the festivities were to begin. He could be an asshole so no one except my grandmother really mourned his passing. He left her a nice inheritance though so I guess he wasn't all bad.

Be happy you can actually feel something when a cherished person in your life passes.

My grandfather died Christmas day last year. They went to FL for the winter, he got sick and had a botched gall bladder removal that spread infection through his body. My dad flew down xmas eve, we had our normal xmas festivities in the morning, opening presents and whatnot but not having dad there and knowing grandpa was in bad shape made it a bummer. Got the call around 7PM he had passed. he was 72.

My sister-in-laws husbands grandfather died christmas eve this year. Maybe jeebus gets lonely this time of year cuz he has alienated himself from everyone who has already been there for awhile.

Whoa! This hits too close to home. In 1996 I nearly died from a gall bladder infection via a stuck gall stone in the bile duct. I had been experiencing severe pains in my body. I got so bad I went to the emergency because I thought I was dying. The next morning a technician did a scan which revealed gall stones. Surgery was scheduled for TWO WEEKS later. I went home. The pains went away. I started sleeping for 14-16 hours a night. I lost my appetite. I almost passed out at work. People kept telling me that I didn't look good. A few days before my surgery my sister who was a nursing student at the time said "I think you have jaundice". I made it to surgery in a very weak state.

After surgery, a medical student visited me, albeit a highly medicated version of me, in my room an said "....that was a close call. Your gall bladder was severely infected and on the verge of rupturing. You might not have made it another day or two."

That f'n close to dying. It still freaks me out.
