The power co. here on Long Island has finally outdone themselves when it comes to incompetence. Last night, there were 3 repair trucks on my block. There were guys with flashlights IN MY BACK YARD checking the wires behind the houses.

What's the end result? EVERYBODY EXCEPT MY SIDE OF THE STREET HAS THEIR POWER BACK. A block in either direction, and across the street has their power back on. Even the neighbors in back of us, running off the exact same power lines, has power. But not us.

Seriously, how fucking stupid are these guys?

From what I gathered by listening to callers from Long Island on Mike Francesa's show from the past week, LIPA is the Cablevision of the utility companies.

Are you waiting on line at an electricity station that's closed?

Here's a fun tidbit... LIPA is the "new and improved" predecessor of the former LI power company called LILCO.

LIPA took over after LILCO was forced out of business because they were corrupt, and completely inept when it came to getting shit back up and running after hurricanes...

The Long Island Lighting Company, or LILCO [ "lil-co" ], was an electrical power company and natural gas utility for the communities of Long Island, New York, serving 2.7 million people in Nassau, Suffolk and Queens Counties.[1]

Hurricane Gloria hit Long Island on September 27, 1985, but power was not fully restored until October 8. The bitterness from the delays in restoring power helped bring down the Shoreham Plant and eventually helped force the sale of the company.

On March 5, 1998, final Federal approval was received for LIPA to take over LILCO. The deal was completed later that year.
Who's next? LIPCO?

Well, that and spending billions on a nuclear plant that never went online because they built it on an island whose only evacuation route is a bottleneck.

The plant should have been converted to a Natural Gas plant. That way it isn't a total loss.

J'ever see that nuke plant out in Shoreham? Thing's Fing creepy. Tesla's old lab is out therepretty close too... that's pretty cool too... I think they're trying to turn it into an historic landmark before some dirtbag builder bulldozes it and throws up McMansions.

Last I saw they stuck a single wind turbine thingy on the site... to make it seem like at least something power generatory is going on... it looks ridiculous.

Con Edison was warning that those who most recently had their power restored were the ones most likely to lose it again with this storm.

I found that hysterical:

"Honey, nine days and the power is finally back... And it's gone."
