It's a "Car Tax"

If they called it that though, people wouldn't want to pay it.
i guess thats why i tow more unregistered cars that just happen to be driven buy people that are kind of dark, we all know that dont pay taxes

You got it bad?

Try being 18 and living on Long Island and paying for insurance and registration. 853.13$ for an opening payment. 1,053$ spent in a month (including registration), 511.54$ every month, just for insurance. Just to drive. I've never gotten a ticket or a wreck either.

As for a ticket to not wearing a seatbelt, that's your problem. You don't follow the law, don't complain when you get caught.

In 1987 when I started driving in Jersey at 17 it was $2500 a year, that was 20 years ago. :action-sm

Laws are written by politicians, most of which are lawyers. The seatbelt law was not enacted for your safety dummy, it was enacted because insurance lobby groups wanted to maximize profits.

No different than a helmet law, why shouldn't you be allowed to ride a motorcycle without one on?

They used to call these things freedoms/pursuit of happiness. Now any shmuck in office thinks he knows what is best for you, we call that big government and big brother. you can have em, I don't need them to tell me to wear a seatbelt in my truck I bought with my money, that I paid taxes on to buy. the gas has taxes, the truck had taxes, the inspection, the insurance, the emissions check, registration, drivers license, and another excuse to ticket you. Only crappy cops write those tickets, unless their on a cam and they are running a click it or ticket campaign.

yea i was paying at least 2500$ a year back in 90-95 plus car payments...

oh and seat belt laws and registrations inspections ect, are all reasons for the police to pull you over and hassle you, and thats that. if your doing something else wrong not wearing your seatbelt is a probable cause to pull you over

FEZ MAN, I thought you lived in PA, the seat belt thing isnt PC.

Reasonable suspicion then PC is how it goes, PC is harder to prove.

Just got rid of my 2005 F150, I was paying $1600 a year full coverage. I haven't got a ticket since summer of '89, and only 2 accidents that were not my fault. I figure that is a good rate in this state for a new 40g truck at the time, non commercial plates.
My rates didn't start dropping untill I turned 30, then used an addy other then Newark.

it really depends on your municipality, and how guilty you look, also toll takers can detain you. oh and i was referring to NJ i do believe that no seat belt is now a primary stop. hence probable cause, i know lots and lots of cops i sit around a shoot the shit with them all the time, there always looking for an excuse to make a pinch, and nothing is better than being black, with tinted windows, funny inspection stickers, and bad registrations to get pulled over.

Really?? Never heard of that. My friend's mom is a taker on the Turnpike.. If she tried to detain anyone they'd probably laugh their asses off.

I got detained coming into Long Island once because I was .50 cents short of the toll. They make you pull over, a cop comes out, takes your license, registration, and insurance and tickets you.

If you don't wear a seatbelt, you deserve whatever happens to you. And if your dead ass ends up on my hood after you fly through your windshield, I'm going to sue your estate for any damages to my vehicle and the mental or emotional trauma I may suffer.

I love being Canadian and a farmer.

Insurance on my 05 Avalanche - $400

registration on it- $72

insurance for 12 vehicles on the farm, plus all the buildings and equipment- $12,000

sometimes Canada is still great
