I've fucking HAD IT! I've been searching for an apartment in this fucking city for OVER 2 MONTHS and I can't find anything. I even have a decent budget (around 1100-1200), but:

- My credit could be better (but I have a good cosigner, yet some people don't care. Actually had a guy tell me: "We only allow cosigners if you have good credit but bad income." I asked him what difference it made, since the whole point of a cosigner was to have someone who guarantees they get the rent on time, but he couldn't give me a good answer)

- I'm a smoker/420 (the latter seems less of a problem than the former. Aren't there any smokers in this shithole city who needs roommates? Everyone seems to be a vegan lesbian non-smoker who hates Republicans and won't allow music in the house)

- I don't want to live in a shitty neighborhood or very far from the city (currently focusing on Astoria).

- I work from home (also something that a lot of people seem to have a problem with).

So, fuck you, apartment hunting in NYC. You have made a complete neurotic mess out of me.

PS: This is, in a way, also a call to any NY baggers who need a like-minded roommate, I guess...

Just for the record, my credit isn't bad because of delinquency and whatnot (I have one late $40 payment on a loan, and I'm in the process of disputing it, because it isn't my fault that the loan people told me I was on Autopay and just didn't do it). It's mostly because I've only been living in the US for under 4 years, and I don't have much of a credit history. Not that that matters in this fucking country, because all they care about is your credit score, not THE REASON for your credit score. UGH!!!!!!!

I saw some of this in Boston, but holy shit. This city is full of weirdos.

Not that it's the greatest place to live, but that's why I would move to Jersey. You can find a great place for the money you're talking about, on your own, no roommate. And if you did have one we aren't as bitchy about smoking here as they are in NY. And depending on the city, and based on what I ready you might prefer Hoboken, it's like a mini downtown NYC, there's great nightlife and it's a quick train ride away from NYC.

If it makes you feel any better, it's not that people don't care why your credit score is low, it's that they don't have a fucking clue how credit works, so they just blindly take the number and can't comprehend why one way or another.

Call up Chris Stanley. Maybe he knows someone, who knows someone who can hook you up.

Yep... credit scores are just a lazy way to determine "your worth".

My credit rating stinks because I don't borrow money, don't carry a balance, don't pay interest charges, refuse to pay scammers who send collection agencies after me, etc...

FICO is basically punishing me for not being a sucker and a victim of their racket.

Not if I want to leave my apartment after dark. Even Crown Heights and parts of Bed Stuy are getting too pricey for me.

I thought about doing this, but I know so few people in this area, I'd rather stay as close to them as I can. I'm feeling like an isolated loner as it is. If I move to Jersey, I'll just sit at home all day every day.

We have a place for rent in Bayonne. Great commuter town.

"No smokers." And I don't need a 2 bedroom. I barely have any furniture.

They can't punish you if you refuse to use credit or do business with people who check your credit. The whole car insurance/apartment excuse for carrying debt is bullshit. I haven't had a penny of debt in 15 years and I've never had a problem getting car insurance or an apartment.

No, but they can deny you for LACK of credit. My sister got denied for things for a while because of it, until she got her car. Once she started building credit, now they'll approve her for anything. It's about building a history, I know plenty of people who have issues just for not having any credit.

Bayonne people - do you have cars? Is it possible to get by without a car?

Yup. That's exactly it. Until. I could have bought my truck cash, but instead I took a loan out for 3 years and 'paid for my credit score'. Now I've got everything paid for, a decent emergency fund, a small retirement fund, and just have to pay my mortgage until that's done (hopefully 15 years)

My building still has a few rentals. Studios are a low low $2000. 1 stop to Downtown Manhattan.

How long of a commute into the city?
Depending on where you're going in the city. WTC is the quickest, less than an hour. Cause that's light rail to Exchange Place then right to WTC. Getting to 33rd is a lil longer cause you have to go to Hoboken then get the 33rd st train. There's also a bus that goes from Bayonne to Port Authority. I've taken that a lot when I worked uptown, it takes a while cause its a bus, and it goes through Jersey City, but I hate changing trains, so I'd rather do that.

My money-borrowing days are in my rearview mirror. FICO can go jump in a lake.
