Taunted San Diego Teen Dropped Out but Alleged Bullying Continued Online
By DAVID WRIGHT and AMANDA KEEGAN | Good Morning America – 8 hours ago
A 16-year-old San Diego girl says there was no escaping the alleged bullies who taunted her relentlessly at high school, even after she dropped out.
Katie Uffens left Westview High School earlier this year after she overheard alleged school bullies talking about the "KKK, the Kill Katie Klub."
"I didn't know if it was a joke or they were really trying to kill me," Uffens told ABC News' San Diego affiliate KGTV.
Her mother, Giselle Uffens, a former Mrs. California, appealed to the school administration and the San Diego police who at first declined to press charges, citing lack of evidence.
That's when her daughter left the school, enrolling in a home-school charter program instead.
"I said we are going to move, this is going to go away," Giselle Uffens said.
But Uffens' mother says the bullies continued to harass her daughter online through social media.
She collected defamatory photos and comments on Facebook, Twitter and recorded dozens of allegedly threatening phone calls made to their house.
"The kids didn't stop, they kept calling us, calling us, calling us," she said.
Police finally intervened earlier this month, taking two boys out of class at Westview. One of them, Nick Aguirre, said the "Kill Katie Klub" was just a joke.
"Basically, what I said to one of my friends was 'Kill Katie Klub,'" Aguirre explained to KGTV. "It was a one-liner thing. We never had any intentions to hurt anybody."
Aguirre acknowledged that Uffens was unpopular and didn't deny that he picked on her. But he said he's the real victim, having been dragged out of school publicly by police.
"She's bullying people at Westview," he said.
Among parents, the case has promoted bitter debate about how best to handle such alleged abusive behavior among teens.
Some parents now accuse the school of ignoring its duty to protect students because of concerns about the district's reputation.
But school officials said, "Incidents are taken seriously and investigated. We work very closely with law enforcement when appropriate.
On the same day Aguirre and the other teen were arrested, the school sent a letter home to parents reminding them of the school's zero-tolerance policy on bullying. Each year students and parents are required to sign the disciplinary code that outlines the hate and harassment policy.
"Zero tolerance is zero tolerance," Westview parent Kevin Ellio said. "You shouldn't have to tolerate any type of bullying. It's just unacceptable."
The two alleged bullies now face possible criminal charges. And the Uffens family has hired a lawyer.

Yeah, if I girl has to leave your school because she was being bullied and you did nothing about it, you don't have a "zero tolerance policy on bullying," assholes. I know we all bemoan the loss of bullying, but when it rises to the level of constant harassment at home and shit, feet need to be stuck up asses.

Kids are weird these days. You don't pick on the attractive people, you pick on the nerds. My sister just got her license and she DOESN'T want to drive. WTF?

Oh and my phone wanted to autocorrect the word "nerd" we are doomed.

What's wrong with her that no guy stood up to defend her? She's definitely cute enough to justify it... unless maybe that just doesn't happen anymore? I just wonder if there's another side of the story... perhaps she's a complete bitch (or maybe I'm just an asshole).

These guys are fuckers for doing this and should be expelled, but that's why you never give in to bullying... it doesn't help. She should have never left the school.

Ugh...every time I read one of these awful cases of bullying, I turn to compassionate thoughts of Adam Lambert, Adam Levine, and Glee...

...and that makes me support the bullies. ;)

I don't know why no one put these kids in their place and stood up for this cute girl. It's usually the kid that smells like shit, wears panty hose as underwear (happened to a kid in my intermediate school), or has some sort of disorder...that gets picked on. Not these cute kids.

Come to think of it...referring to my experience in high school...there's always a couple of the really hot girls in school that get bullied. But it's always a couple really ugly, jealous girls that are initiating the hate and bullying. I can remember a really hot girl in my school that was constantly picked on, and she wasn't a slut or anything or stole any girl's boyfriends or anything. She just had those beautiful eyes and smile and had a great body. That was enough for ol' fat legged Samantha with the acne problem to pick on her.

Yeah, that's kind of my interpretation of those high school days as well.

The truly self-confident, happy people were rarely bullies. The bullies were usually the scumbag types. Oh, we had plenty of stuck-up, full of themselves assholes at my school (you know, besides me...), but they never actually bullied anybody. They just made other people feel beneath them by not interacting with them. "Isolation", by the way, is now considered party of bullying, but that's one of the more obviously bullshit sides to a very bullshit "epidemic".

The bullies were usually the losers, the burnouts, the kids who had nothing going for them except that they were bigger and stronger than other kids.

In retrospect, there was really very little of that at my high school. It helped that the Big Man On Campus, a future NFL fullback, was also a band geek, honors student, etc., and his only school discipline action was to get suspended for beating up a bully who was making fun of the class retard. As the BMOC, Jon kind of made sure people knew that you could only go so far in being a dickhead at our school.

Fuck the school for not dealing with this bullshit.
Any school official that doesn't take action against this shit should be held accountable in some way.

Isn't this dude a little old for bullying? I admittedly never read these bullying stories, but I always assumed it was like 3rd-8th graders.
This guy looks 18 or so...

And a weird target; I expected some 400 pound chick or something.
Where's her white knight?

My dad had me and my sister well trained..you start to get bullied...Beat them verbally..if it is physical...goad said bully into a physical confrontation have them attempt to strike first. You strike last. My sister, not what you would call a person quick with a comeback, was getting picked on by a girl on her team and class..My sister goaded the girl into slapping her on the pool deck at a meet...my sister, who was taught to throw a punch by my dad,(my sister was a tom boy) laid the girl out....

Fuck the term "bullying". I can't believe my generation actually uses that term for college students... you know, people old enough to go to fucking war. This is a case of "occasionally, people are mean".

But really, why wasn't this going on? Guy stands up for bullied girl --> Girl feels good --> Guy gets to put penis in her
Suuuuuuure. Hey you mean boys, leave my girlfriend's older sister alone!
