Following his recent woes with critics and audiences alike, it's no surprise to hear M. Night Shyamalan is considering revisiting one of his more acclaimed efforts.

He told MTV News that he's thinking about a sequel to possibly his best film, 2000's Unbreakable. The enigmatic helmer said: "I tell you I get asked about it all the time, so it's not (an idea) I ever forget... I genuinely just asked this question the other day - should I make 'Unbreakable 2'?"

Apparently the film was always meant to be part of a trilogy, but bad initial reviews and audience reaction put Shymalan off. He elaborated: "I made the mistake of getting caught up in the hype of the immediate reaction of the movie, which, experience has shown me, is not accurate to any of my movies."

"And If I had been more confident and said 'I believe in that movie, I love that movie, and I should just go start writing the second one,' that would've been the right move. I've still been thinking about it a lot and wonder if it's too late."

He continued: "I do love the [comic book movie] genre, I just wanna make sure that I'm able to express who I am... I don't want to get so lost in the subject that I have to neuter everything that's me in it, so maybe Unbreakable is the comic book thing I should do -- I keep coming back to that."

Haven't there been rumors of UB2 since UB1 came out?

I think its a bit too late. Also, even though many people might disagree (I don't give a shit), I think Unbreakable was his best movie, but it was great because it was a one time thing. You can't make Titanic 2.

Too late. He's pissed on audiences one too many times. I've been skipping everything he's made since watching the shitfest that was Signs.

I think that Sixth Sense was his best on initial watch, but Unbreakable was the most rewatchable of all of his movies. I tried watching Sixth Sense when it hit DVD and couldn't make 30 minutes into again, but Unbreakable was still pretty damn good on second and third watches.

Unbreakable was his best movie and in my opinion its my favorite movie of all time. There is no other movie like it anywhere. Although at the time I thought he should have started work on Unbreakable 2, after all of the stinkers he's made since(besides Signs) he should just leave it alone. I'll keep my memory of a talented director.

No surprise. He desperately needs a hit, and I think it would have incredible potential to be one as well.

I think I'd rather see Signs 2 - this time the aliens bring waterproof suits.

They might of waited too long on this trilogy and at one point it was going to be a comic book continuation.

Well since the first one was supposed to be the start of a trilogy, it's just the first one underperformed.
I thought that was a rumor MNS said wasn't true.

I too thought UB was MNS best film.

I also think Unbreakbale was his best movie and if he planned to do a trilogy, he should have done it in the first place. Given M. Night's recent history, I'm not sure an Unbreakable 2 can save his career.

After The Happening, I may just see every movie he does from here on out, just to marvel at how awful they are.

"Something unknown started attacking people in cities. What could it be? Trees! The cities, known for their plant life!"

"The plants are killing us so let's spend 80% of the movie running around in fields."

Good stuff. Good stuff.

Did I miss something? When did Unbreakable become a good film, let alone his best film? Was it remade and re-released? Haven't seen the new version, but the one I saw in the theater was a hacky, contrived piece of garbage. Is the special edition available on DVD?

I'm a Super Villain, Mother Fucker! Eccch.

I haven't seen it since the theaters, but I remember I was really into it until the end, which rendered the whole movie much ado about nothing, at least for me. I've been meaning to revisit it for a while now.

What not true like George Lucas saying there would be 9 films? Cause i seem to remember a mention of it being the start of a trilogy on the DVD.

Hell I have been hearing the rumours of 9 films in the Star Wars series since ROTJ first came out.

He wrote the "sequel" trilogy in 1975 around the time he finished writing all the prequels.

You must have seen a different movie because Unbreakable was awesome.
