So tired of these whiny faggots suing every time they realize they can no longer compete.

Google must pay $660,000 for offering Google Maps for free

You may like that Google Maps is free, but a French court says it's actually anticompetitive.
A Paris court earlier this week ordered Google France and its parent company Google to pay plaintiff Bottin Cartographes 500,000 euros (about $660,000) for providing its free mapping services to businesses across the country. The court also required Google to pay a 15,000 euro fine for its practice.
"We proved the illegality of (Google's) strategy to remove its competitors," Jean-David Scemmama, attorney for Bottin Cartographes, a company that provides mapping services to businesses, told the AFP in an interview earlier this week. "The court recognized the unfair and abusive character of the methods used, and allocated Bottin Cartographes all it claimed. This is the first time Google has been convicted for its Google Maps application."

According to Scemmama, Bottin has been arguing its case against Google for two years, claiming the search giant was engaging in anticompetitive practices by using its free service to take control over the online-mapping industry.
In a statement to the AFP, Google said that it will appeal the court's decision, adding that Google Maps is still facing competition in that market.
Late last year, Google Maps also came under fire in the U.S., after British Telecom filed a lawsuit against the search giant in a Delaware District Court, claiming the mapping service violates patents it holds related to navigation information.
Google did not immediately respond to CNET's request for comment on the Maps lawsuit.
Of course this happened in that socialist piece of shit France. Boo hoo, we need to outlaw competition or at least keep paying business who can no longer compete! Hopefully Google will just turn off map service to France.

Yes, but the customer (us) does not pay for the service provided, thus these socialist crybabies want money since no one wants to pay for maps anymore.

It really is more feudal than socialist. Back in ye oldie times, guilds regulated products in this exact way. You couldn't just charge what you wanted as a blacksmith or a carpenter, and you also couldn't just set up shop where you wanted. The guild made sure there wasn't too much competition so that prices would stay high enough and the artisans could all afford to pay fees to the guilds.

Yeah, but that practice has continued in the EU as a protectionist scheme. They make agreements to buy products from member nations, rather than say China, so that people keep their jobs. It keeps prices high and people working. Like I said, hopefully Google will just shut off the service in France and let them suffer with the protectionism. People can go buy a map from some asshole every time they want to look up an address. Fuck em.

I paid $80 for Tom Tom GPS for my Windows Mobile phone back in the day, Google really did crush companies like this by offering it for free. Maybe Tom Tom can start making buggy whips now...

And I can imagine this $600k fine really killing Google. Has anyone checked their stock price in response to this today?

Companies with inferior business models should be crushed. I remember paying $20/month for Verizon's navigation app back in the day, and it wasn't nearly as good as Google Maps.
