Ummm a guard would never bring contraband in... eeeesh.
Of course the union doesn't want safer prisons. The more guards get shanked, the more money they can demand.
Who's guarding the guards?
I wouldn't think that, because I have a working brain and no agenda to cover up.
What I would think is the communication channel out is just as profitable as the channel in.
They're the ones that started that shit?
Not to mention the flow of contraband will be at a standstill.
Obviously, but this is on their way out. The only thing they might be smuggling out of prison is information (i.e. communications with outside associates of the prisoners). And a piece of paper isn't going to be detected by a patdown.
I don't know about how other prison systems work, but where I work you are subject to search any time you step foot on the premises. Failure to submit to the search means bye bye.
It is generally random coming into the facilities, using pat searches and drug K-9s, but it has been done on the way out before. The time it was done on the way out, one guy tried to leave with a few hundred he didn't come in with, which as it turned out was a payoff to bring in drugs.
I got no problem with this, and after seeing the giant bag of K-2 that was shown to me today, I frankly wished we did it more.
Are you a CO?
Before I went into administration, yes.
