I've heard from the guy that runs the reloading supply store in Amarillo that he doesn't think he's going to be able to stay in business if the industry doesn't turn around by summer. He said that in the last month he actually had stock (meaning calibers that people actually buy) that he sold somewhere in range of $100k and $150k in just .223 reloading supplies. The money he made from that he immediately turned around and ordered more supply with but he was given an estimated date of delivery that was much further out than he expected so he's pretty much freaking out about keeping his store front open.

In other news, previous to the other thread being closed I had asked about some LaRue rails for my R700. I appreciate the replies from you fuckers.

As always, the gun thread here has been a place that most people will legit answer your question and not give you shit for you're lack of knowledge on a particular subject.

If you are still looking to lighten up your AR via lighter rails, check out theses: http://www.lancer-systems.com/business-areas/small-arms/products/carbon-fiber-handguard/

I would maybe think about one of those provided you're not mounting optics or sights to it and just using it for a hand guard. If you can have your front sight mounted on the gas block and your optic on your upper receiver, it might be one way to go. I know that my carbon fibre knee brace is over 15 years old and I have beat the ever loving fuck out of it skiing and it is still as strong as it was on day one.

The last thread was closed because it was so long that it took forever to load with the new forum software. Plus, Buster wanted us to start individual threads for individual issues (like PTW being a pussy and wanting a lighter AR than his LaRue), instead of cramming everything into one thread.

Maybe one generic gun thread would be Ok for general bullshitting, but people should be posting new threads for different issues.

Want advice on picking a new gun? Start a thread.

Want to post a link to something you saw online? Maybe it can go here, or post a thread. I'll defer to the mods on that one.

I like this new system also... the old gun thread was so overwhelming that I ended up avoiding it. That and I ended up banging my head against the keyboard reading about all the guns you guys are buying that I can't own in California.

You kinda need to break up the thread. Guns and weaponry are pretty hot topics nowadays and it's something that alot of 'baggers are passionate about. I'm certainly a helluvalot more passionate now than I was one year ago. I mean, it had been over a year since the Tucson shooting and it just kept spiraling after Feb 2012 with Trayvon, that the Aurora shootings, topped off with Sandy Hook. The gun grabbers are now out in force.

I think that was kind of the purpose of the Outdoors Forum originally...so we can have one big forum to discuss hunting and sport (you know, what the 2nd Amendment is based off of ;)) as well gun ownership, law abiding citizens killing criminals, 2nd issues, home invasion silliness...etc. It beats having one massive Gun thread that I think originally was buried in Off-Topic. We've also got one big 2nd Amendment thread in CE, which is right where it needs to be (because it is a current event).

I think that the 2nd Amendment thread in CE should be stickied so it's not getting buried under all the other crap.

I would agree with that.

As soon as the big brown truck runs at my favorite local tactical shop, my new Leupold 1.5-4x scope will be here. Hopefully, I can pick it up next week. I have the money parked in the bank, but that's already been allocated to my new Aimpoint, and I don't want to spend it unless I have to.

I don't agree with your interpretation of my desire to have a new rifle. I don't agree AT ALL.

How is PTW supposed to go around confiscating everybody else's rifles if he's not even strong enough to pick up his own?:action-sm

Well...I AM a tax collector ya know.
Out of curiosity, how much does your AR weigh? I'm curious how it compares to my SBR.

Side note - I got my Leupold Mark AR Mod 1 in today. I'll probably start a new thread with my initial impressions (Short version - oh shit yes) in the next day or two. Ordered a LaRue LT-104 scope mount to go with it tonight, hopefully I will have it next week.

Tomorrow is the last day of my tour so I'll bring it out of my patrol vehicle tomorrow evening and give it a weigh. I've been taking classes with a former Army Ranger for the last two weeks and when he held it (no mag and clear chamber) he was surprised at the weight of it compared to his military issued weapon and even compared to his Squad's SAW. My FTO, prior to having his 11.5 BCM upper, had a 16" BCM upper with MOE handguards. When I held that for the first time (immediately after picking up my rifle) it was pretty evident how much heavier mine was than his.

I'll get you guys a weight tomorrow night or Saturday morning if I remember.

As far as your Leupold goes, I think you made a good choice based on my limited research into Leupold's. If you can, maybe get a picture of down the scope? I'd be interested in checking into that down the road once I'm able to pick myself up another AR.

Ordered an LT-104 mount last night for my Leupold at 10PM central, and I just got the tracking number. Nice to see that they are still shipping mounts quickly.

Sent from the USS Sulaco.

I've been waiting since the middle of December for LaRue to ship my range bag. How is it that I can get 30 round Magpul Emags before I can get a range bag?!

Mark LaRue regularly posts on his industry forum on AR15.com. He's stated in a few threads that the only thing that they have plenty of and will ship almost immediately is all of their mounts. All of there soft stuff (bags, apparel) and obviously their rifles are backordered quite heavily.

Local police chiefs support sealing Maine concealed weapons list

A bill to outlaw public release of concealed weapons permits has the support of area police chiefs and at least one local legislator, who say release of such information has the potential to aid in criminal activity.

The bill filed by Rep. Corey Wilson, R-Augusta, has also gained the approval of Gov. Paul LePage, who Thursday urged the Legislature to make the information confidential.

Currently, information, including the name, age and address of concealed weapons permit holders, is available to the public.

Wilson said he filed the bill, which currently has 64 cosponsors, in the wake of the mass killings in Newtown, Conn., in December. Particularly, he was concerned when he learned that a few days later, a New York newspaper published a list of permit holders.

“That highlighted the issue for me,” he said. “What you saw were people being threatened, and one man who was arrested had a map in his possession with all the home addresses, and was burglarizing homes.”

That logic rings true to York Police Chief Douglas Bracy and Theodor Short, chief in Eliot and interim chief in Kittery. Both said that in their tenure no one has asked for a list of permit holders. They both said the names are not available online, either.

But they said the potential is there for the information to be used by criminals nonetheless.

“We have a high percentage of people who own weapons in Maine. And in a high percentage of burglaries, they're taking weapons because they can be sold easily for drugs,” said Short.

“When you're identifying a person from information” on a permit, “you're potentially letting the bad guys know where to go,” said Bracy. “If someone with illicit intent wanted to come in and get the list (of permit holders), they could.”

Short said he's also concerned about the invasion of privacy that releasing the information potentially creates.

“It starts in my mind with the invasion of privacy. You can be exposing people to criminal activity or some form of harassment,” he said. “I don't know that it would discourage people from getting weapons but it might deter them from getting a concealed weapons permit.”

Rep. Windol Weaver, R-York, one of the cosponsors of the bill, said in his mind this issue falls into a “gray area” concerning the constitutional right to bear arms.

“Some people see (the release of permit holders' information) as an infringement on their rights. It gets into that area,” he said.

Wilson, the bill sponsor, said flags were raised for him when he learned that the Bangor Daily News was gathering information from police departments statewide about permit holders, “and that's alarming to me.”

AnthonyRonzio, director of news and new media for the BDN, said the newspaper is gathering the information as part of reporting projects on domestic violence and drug abuse.

“The BDN has no intention to release this information publicly,” he said. “We intend to use this information, along with other information we are gathering, to analyze possible correlations and trends relevant to our reporting projects.”

LePage, who said he has a concealed weapons permit, in a statement released Thursday said he's not convinced.

“I have serious concerns that the BDN's request will incite fear among gun owners and non-gun owners alike regarding their safety,” he said.
The bill, HR, 345, has been assigned to the Judiciary Committee.
