I know there is a back ache thread out there some where, but I cannot find it, but I need some fucking help! B-b-b-b-b-b-big time.

I had some back pain a while back and it kinda went away. Now the shit has returned with a vengeance. This shit is like lightning in a bottle right down my left leg. It is bringing me down to my knees in the morning and sometimes after I have been @ my desk for a while! WTF!?!?!??!

Anyone out there have this problem?

What is the best fix?

My PCP says wait it out first it will go away, then steroids if that does not work. Steroids seems to be the answer to everything these days. My boss was given steroids for a fucking cough.

I have been looking up help online, acupuncture, cortisone, chiropractor are things that have been mentioned there.

Anyone, anyone?

Go to a Pain Management Specialist, at least this worked for me.
They did an epidural injection into my spine.
I felt absolutley no pain after my second shot.
Good Luck.

It has lots of those "words"....but since you'll try anything, you may be able to get something out of it.

Hmmmmm, Knowledge Therapy huh? Interesting read. So now I have to determine what my emotional problems are. :arrrh:

I have also heard of people using Inversion therapy (hanging upside down and doing exercises) and they swear by it
I would have to find one of those funny looking chair thingys right?

I heard some guys have a wallet that is too thick and sitting on it all day can cause or aggravate the sciatica down that leg. No shit.

actually i had the same thing. I had a L5 Lumbar Lamenectomy 10 years ago and im sorry i walked around the the two years prior in pain cause i was to dumb to get to the doctors and get a MRI. Live and learn.

Goto the doctors. demand an MRI or CT scan, and dont leave till they arange it for you. You are the master of your destiny, dont walkk around in pain.

I'm pretty sure I have this going on right now too, only its my right leg and its not shooting pain, it just goes numb from my hip to about my knee. It happens at least once every night, and most days for at least part of the day.

I'm going to make an appointment with a chiropractor and probably my main doctor, but I sort of think mine is an aftereffect of an epidural when I gave birth. They put it in slightly to the side, so my right side was over-numb (to the point of hurting) and I could still feel some in my left leg. I already had back issues BEFORE the epidural - and they've been getting worse over the past few months :(

I would prefer no surgery if at all possible.

Sciatica can be a number of things, more often then not it's associated with a herniated disc. The doctor described it to me this way. Each disc is a jelly filled doughnut with a hole in the center. The nerves run straight down the center of the doughtnuts. Every disc has a soft spot, and inside each disc is a jelly filled center. The constant compression of each disc, either from normal wear and tear from being a bi-ped or trauma, causes the jelly in each disc to find the soft spot and escape in the exact same way you squeeze a tube of toothpaste the past will bulge out and press against the nerve causing serious pain and over time permanent nerve damage.

He told me that chiropractors can do more damage then good since there is a physical symptom that is causing the pressure against the nerve so when the chiropractors contorts or pushes, or prods, or whatever it is they do they are causing more damage to the discs. But your problem can range from moderate to severe. Cures can range from a shot of Cortisone to disc fusion in the absolute worse scenario. Not everyone is the same, but this doctor was a Navy surgeon for 30 years, and he knows his shit. but the first thing you have to do is have an MRI. Period. you gotta find out the exact problem. But dont walk around in pain bro, get it looked at.

I am dealing with the same thing as we speak except mine is runnung down my right leg especially around my hip.

Tried stretching and working out through it. Sitting standing, laying down, nothing stopped the pain.

Tried Advil and Aleeve, NOTHING.

Saw my buddy who is a pharmacist and he said to take 800mg of Motrin and it took most of the edge off.

He said the only thing is try to keep off it and take

NON Steroidal anti inflammatory.

He said it will ease the pain and keep the inflamation down so any sort of friction being caused by the swelling will subside.

Not sure if it will work long term, but for the first time in over a week, I am not howling in pain and should get a good night's sleep.

Try to relax and put ice on it. Always helps. Stretching can make it hurt more. The only reason i know is cause im trying to hook up with the receptionist at my chiropracter. I always text her when my back is hurting.
