I am into dystopian future type things. I like the road and I like the fallout games, anyone know of any decent books that deal with this type of subject. I looked on amazon and there is way too much to sift through.

Swan Song by Robert McCammon, frigging AWESOME book. I could also suggest Floating Dragon by Peter Straub. Had a very "The Stand" vibe to it.

Alright, I have enough to wade through right now. Thanks for your suggestions. I think I'll start with WWZ and One Second after.

Not at all. I just did that because apparently according to some people I talk about it too much.

And by "some people" I mean FBF.
Just read back my post and it came out wrong. The Passage is most certainly a great Post Apocalyptic book. Just look at the thread we got going for it.

The Stand of course, but that pretty much goes unsaid.

The Passage, Swan Song, and WWZ are all great.

Alas, Babylon is also a good read, but it's a little slower.

Dies the Fire by S.M. Stirling.

Damn it, I always get to these threads late.

I guess The Peace War by Vernor Vinge also sorta qualifies here. It's not your typical "toxic wasteland" type of dystopian future, but I would say it sorta fits in with the other books mentioned here.

Just finished Peter Heller, goddamn that was some fine writing.

Hig survived the flu that killed everyone he knows. His wife is gone, his friends are dead, he lives in the hangar of a small abandoned airport with his dog, his only neighbor a gun-toting misanthrope. In his 1956 Cessna, Hig flies the perimeter of the airfield or sneaks off to the mountains to fish and pretend that things are the way they used to be. But when a random transmission somehow beams through his radio, the voice ignites a hope deep inside him that a better life–something like his old life–exists beyond the airport. Risking everything, he flies past his point of no return–not enough fuel to get him home–following the trail of the static-broken voice on the radio. But what he encounters and what he must face–in the people he meets, and in himself–is both better and worse than anything he could have hoped for.

Could someone help me out. If you find the audiobook version of The walking dead: The Road To Woodbury on a secret site could you pm me?

I love this thread
Yeah, I think we should actually start a bunch of different ones like this. Instead of "good sci-fi" or "good fantasy" we can do threads like "good books about alien planets" or "interesting future technology" or "book about a loser who becomes a hero." This anime message board I post on does that and it's a nice way to find good stuff.

I agree... often I want a pretty specific type of book, which is tough to find without doing the whole "books like [whatever]" search.
