I really love the picture of a plasma, I like the lifespan of LCD's, but most of all I love the DLP's, especially this LCD-powered DLP from samsung - the specs blow away almost everything I've seen in plasma or LCD. It's only 12" deep which means it's easily countertop-mounted, I'm not looking to wall mount this one anyway.

What do you think of the LCD-powered DLP?

Why would I buy that one, or not buy that one and go with a plasma or LCD instead?

Another thing to keep in mind, if you plan on playing Video Games on your TV, LCD is best, as there is no burn in. Plasmas are known for their burn in, and I'm not sure on the DLP side, but I'm thinking that there's some burn-in since the image is projected from a source.

Another thing: If you're going to go 1080p, you need to get a Blu-Ray or HD-DVD player with HDMI connectivity, since those are currently the only mediums that make use of 1080p pictures.

Also, Make sure the 1080p is a decent size, otherwise you won't notice a difference between 720p vs 1080p.

I dont think they make 1080p under 40 inches, I could be wrong though

DLP doesn't burn in either.

I have a 42" Samsung DLP, it is 1080i though. I love it, saved alot of money and it is definitely very comparable to my friends samsung plasma. I got it on "Black Friday" (day after Thanksgiving) for $799. Best money I've ever spent. What exactly does LCD powered DLP mean?

It means that instead of a bulb in "old school" (yours) DLP's that burn out every few thousand hours of use, these use three different LCD bulbs that get 20,000+ hours of life.

the LED Powered (not LCD) DLP's are beautiful pictures. Much cleaner whites than the standard bulb powered ones, and last a lot longer too... it's a great set. If you want a wall mount, I'd suggest the Sharp Aquos LCD in a similar size for the best value LCD. Samsung and Sony XBR would be the best LCDs performance wise, but more expensive. Properly set up you probably won't see THAT big of a difference between Sharp and Sony or Samsung.
