Wow, I never knew about this project. Epic pull quote: 'Jodorowsky’s attempt to cast artist Salvador Dali in the role of Emperor Shaddam IV soon fell apart – Dali demanded the absurd sum of $100,000 per hour, and was later asked to leave the production for making “pro-Franco statements”...'

FUCKING SALVADOR DALI AS THE EMPEROR-- HOW COOL AND FUCKED UP IS THAT

HR Giger did scene designs, I would love to see some of those drawings

the project was indirectly responsible for several happier events. Had O’Bannon never been involved in Dune, he may never have formed a partnership with Ronald Shusett, with whom he co-wrote the original story for Alien. Had Salvador Dali never mentioned the name HR Giger to Jodorowsky, it’s far less likely that the Swiss artist and O’Bannon would have met, either – and without Giger, the Alien creature we all recognise today would never have been born.

yes, i've read about it.

from what i've read, it would have been amazing looking but it would also had changes to the story that would have really pissed off fans of the books.

Who-boy, are you lucky. I have burned through all the great science fiction the world has to offer so far. I would kill to have Dune be a yet undiscovered joy to be experienced again.

Jodorowsky's Dune
opens limited this weekend

The story of cult film director Alejandro Jodorowsky's ambitious but ultimately doomed film adaptation of the seminal science fiction novel.

Is 'ambitious' the word they're using?

I think 'monumentally deluded' would be more appropriate.

oh and Salvador Dali wanted 100,000 d0llars an hour for the flim.

http://www.duneinfo.com/unseen/jodorowsky/

and Alejandro Jodorowsky didn't want to respect the novel because he felt that Dune didn't belong to Frank Herbert.

and in his version Paul Atreides has sex with his mother.

once again i say, who the fuck does he think he is?!

I watched Jodorowsky's Dune last week. It is a really good documentary. I've never read the Dune books and I've never liked the '84 movie of it. Even as a kid I thought the movie was boring and looked shitty. I agree with Jodorowsky's opinion that the movie was terrible but I'm not so sure his version would of been much better. His storyboards looked fantastic though. I just question whether he had the cinematographic eye and skills to pull off such a grand vision without it looking like a cheap, sci-fi B movie. I liked his idea of casting Mick Jagger as one of the characters.
