He's lucky he didn't wind up wearing that nice officers baton in his hair.

This one time, at band camp, a friend hit a cow in the highway at midnight and walked to my house. We called the sheriff and when he arrived, I told him I pulled him over because he had a headlight out. He sighed and said, Yeah, I been meaning to fix that.

The fine officer could have pulled the driver over for driving while distracted (holding the camera).

Then all the loons would be complaining about how he was arrested just for video-taping the officer.

Actually:
SOUTHGATE, Mich. — He rolled up alongside a Detroit police officer and shouted, "Where's your damn seatbelt?" while his home video camera was rolling. Now, Steve McClain of Southgate says he's in trouble with the law for reckless driving.
Seems the cop pulled him over and ticketed the dummy.
When is it ever a good idea to poke the bear?

Cops are usually exempt from seat belt laws. They need to get out quickly to run down scumbags.

I would have pulled over.

What is he going to do if I stop, get out, and look at him and say "now what?"

I would have wondered that for the rest of my life.

Not to take sides here, but most cops take the defensive driving courses and are probably better drivers on average than the typical civilian.

That totally gives them the right to break the law.
So being a prick is a good thing in Donnyland, huh? Okay...

Like it or not, cops don't have to follow the same rules we mere mortals do. You know it, I know it, and there's not a fucking thing that is ever gonna change it, because the police look out for each other.

They would be, but they have many more gadgets and toys to distract them. Their computer screen is almost at floor level, there's two 2-way radios, they have two cell phones (a good guy phone, and a dirty guy phone) and lotso tactical gear. Don't even get me started on the eye makeup and moooostache trimmer.

Yeah... no cop ever took a hit from inspections for not wearing a seatbelt. For a time that was the flavor of the month and guys were losing time left and right for not wearing them.

Well, I certainly won't argue your point; as a cop you would know more than I on the subject. You can't deny, however, that being a cop does have perks that civillians don't get as easily.
