My friends and I are heading down to Baltimore to catch some Orioles games over the weekend, and decided to stop in Philly on the way, even though it's a little out of the way. We will be attending Thursday's Phillies game. I'm expecting to get into town around 3pm and the game is at 7.

    So three questions

    1) Cheesesteak is obviously on the agenda, because we're fat, and we're hacks. Anyone got an opinion on best one? I'm a real cheese guy myself, while my friends are probably more Cheez Whiz guys, so if there are places that offer both options, that would be a big help.

    2) Any quick, hacky tourist shit that we can get done in a couple hours? None of us have ever been to Philly, so we're fine with the basics.

    3) @Ballbuster1 let me know if you're going to the game and I'll buy you a beer. We're in section 114.

One more thing. I like this song, so fuck you.

    1) Chink's Steaks, now called Joe's. Best cheesesteak around, unfortunately it may be off the beaten path.

    2) Mutter museum. Nothing but bizarre medical oddities.

Just get a steak at the ball park the disappointment isn't worth wandering around south philly on game night. Be prepared for fucked up shitty traffic. As for sights. Getting to and from the park is going to eat up plenty of time the sports complex is kind of far from any of the sites

I was on a business trip to DE and caught a Phillies game and an Orioles game in the same week...Lots of fun...I spent more time in traffic than the actual game...Hamels pitched a complete game shutout and Phillies won 5-0 over the braves...game time was 2:13...I am a Red Sox fan and have been to 100+ Red Sox games and at 2:13 we are in the 6th inning...

Another vote for just go to the stadium. Ive driven through the area many times and even off rush hour times the traffic is horrendous. It used to take me just as long to drive from New Brunswick to the Ben Franklin bridge as it did to make it through Philadelphia proper. I cant imagine the volume of traffic around game time.

Its horrendous around the stadium complex even with premium parking its a pain in the dick and very easy to get turned around. I hate it.

Tony Luke's for the cheesesteak, it's on Oregon just off Front St. About 5 minutes (1.7 miles) from the ballpark.
Don't let anyone tell you Pat's or Geno's, they're tourist traps and not very good.
Second on the Mutter Museum, but with the window of time you have, it might be a bit of a crunch. Traffic from 4-7 is a bitch and 95 North is a slow moving parking lot.
The stadium itself is pretty cool and worth a wander around.
Could always just go to Penn's landing and look at old ships.

Lukes or Chinks.....(actually, anything other than Pat's or Geno's is better..) for steaks.

I agree with Tony Lukes...ive been shying away from the classic cheesesteak and getting a roast pork Italian, but I'm a native who can go whenever I want.

Plus its closer to the stadium than the rest.

    Never been to Chinks

but Pats and Genos are utter shit. Great if you like chewing on visible fat.

Tony Luke's or Jim's for steaks.

Go to Chickie and Pete's if you can, probably the best sports bar - restaurant type place... There is one near the stadiums.

Mikeybot is correct about Tony Lukes.
It's on Oregon Ave at Front Street.
You are just a few blocks from the stadium complex there.

Chink's is now Jim's but that's in the Northeast of Philly.
There's a lot of construction on I95 and some closed exits
in that area. Going there would be a nightmare.

As for touristy things that's gonna be hard because of the time
constraint. You'll be in the city at the start of evening drive and
like Manhattan, not good (although not as bad).

You might just want to hang in the sports complex area.
All 4 of the major teams play there and all 3 of the venues
are within 1 block of each other.

In the center of that is Xfinity Live. Pretty much a huge
sports bar/resturant building. They have giant screen tv's
plenty of indoor and outdoor bars and even some field
games to play behind it by the parking lot.

Not a bad place to park behind either. The exit at Broad St
lets you right out at the SB I95 ramp. You can be on the road
in a matter of minutes. I always park there. They even offer
valet on the 11th St side for a few bucks over the normal $15.

If you want a treat, try the crab fries from Chickie & Petes when
you get into the stadium. Crab fries and cheese are the best.

You can take a shit at ballbusters house..but don't dry your hands on the guest towels or use the guest soaps shaped like farm animals or seashells.

If you follow Front St up past that I95 N-676W ramp for a block you're at Tony Luke's.
I always park in lot G and leave out the exit between lot A & B.
Cross over N Broad and make a left on S Broad. Bam! You're on I95 South.

I make it home in 20 minutes tops from a game.

I'm 7 minutes off the Widener U exit headed south.

Chink's is now Joe's. I read an article recently about how businesses has sucked since the PC name change.

Yeah, Jim's / Joe's whatever. He caved into pressure
and lost a ton of business. He's contemplating going
    back to the Chink's name.

Only casino in Philly right now is by the Delaware waterfront.
Not the best of clientele there. The better ones are in the burbs.
