Who here gets them? My right big toe is the usual culprit. And it happens a lot.

Been thinking about asking my doc to do something a bit more permanent to that part of my nail.

I had one once when I was 15. It was on my right big toe as well. Doc had to dig it out and cut it off with a scalpel. Then he killed the nail bed with formaldehyde to keep it from happening again. Ive beem obcessive with keeping my nails trimmed ever since

Yeah, bad too. I have had surgery on two sides of my big toe. They will not grow a nail from the edge anymore. I routinely have to cut the nail and pull the edge out of the other side to prevent. When I had the surgery, the toe was cut from the front, the nail clipped to the top of the nail, then pulled out the front, acid was applied to kill the nail from growing back.

I had one big toenail removed entirely after having the sides of both big toes cut out. Those fuckers hurt. Aside from my little toes, all of my toe nails get ingrown all the time. Mine grow in a fan shape and curl down no matter how you cut them or let them grow. Most of the time now I use toenail scissors and cut back to the bed. Then i use tweezers or pliers and yank the bad part out. It hurts like hell but i get a month or so of relief. The bonus is my toenails usually look like claws and are good for scratching leg itches.

I would suggest seeing a podiatrist... and stupid question are you sure your shoes are big enough. As I was wearing a 9 1/2 or a 10 for years... and I guess your feet get bigger when you get older as now I wear a 10 1/2 or 11 (depending on brand). And now I don't have hobbit feet...

As a long distance runner, I know those evil fuckers all too well. Here's the wisdom I have gained combating them over the years.

Get in there and trim them when you first start to feel pain... the longer you wait, the worse that fucker is going to get.

After you're done trimming and chopping the fuckers out, always clean that shit thoroughly with like alcohol or whatever antiseptic. It's not so much the nail cutting into your toe that hurts, it's the fucking infections afterwards. The bacteria hides in the little nooks down there all warm and damp and just goes apeshit.

The pain of an infected hangnail toe is like a 8 on the Ouch-O-Meter.

Hangnails do indeed stink, and I don't like them neither.

I wear a size 14 wide. The shoes are fine. My feet are terrible.

Must be a treat finding shoes... remember this guy I used to work with he was about 6'6" and wore like size 18's or something. He had to get all his shoes pretty much custom made due to him having PT boats for feet.

I wore 13s since I was a teen. Several years ago they would no longer fit. I chalked it up to China not knowing anything over size 8. I got some 14s and they felt great, but then the next pair I had to go 15. Now they have settled there. I think once I freed the feets to spread out, they did with a zest for expansion.

I used to get them all the time. I went to the podiatrist and he used a laser to fix it. It's been about 15 years since I have had one. Definitely go to a podiatrist, it is a simple procedure that he can do in the office. It hurts for a few days but it well worth it.

Got the offending little bastard. And felt better immediately after. Sweet relief.

I had the side surgery multiple times on both big toes. I finally got tired of it and had them completely remove both big toenails. They numbed it up, ripped them out, cauterized the whole nail bed with a laser, then put acid on them. No more ingrown toenails for me. One of the best decisions I've ever made.
If you get them often (and have no aspirations of being a foot model) get the whole toenail removed. And go to a real podiatrist, not just your regular doctor.

Here is a video I made of a self-inflicted in-grown-toe-nail-ectomy.
