Party animals could soon be able to sober up in an instant just by popping a pill.

Researchers have developed a cocktail of alcohol metabolizing enzymes that speedily reduces blood alcohol levels in drunk mice.

The treatment, which has been compared to having 'millions of liver cells inside your stomach,' could have far-reaching implications for drinkers.

Finally I can honestly tell my friends "I only fucked her because I was drunk" and tell a cop "no, I'm completely fine to drive" within 30 minutes of each other.

I can't imagine a pill that could do something like this won't have some staggering side effects.

Confusing article is confusing. Does it stop the booze from getting into your system (which prevents intoxication), or metabolize the booze already in your system (which would so er you up)?

Sounds like junk science.

Oh the fond memories I have of my best friend being stuck in a k hole in home room my senior year. We hadn't even said the pledge of allegiance or taken attendance yet and there he is trying to scratch his skin off

It sounds like it breaks up the alcohol in your stomach before it gets absorbed... so it's more of a "won't get drunker" pill than a "sober up" pill.

A- boooooooooooooo.

The headline says it "sobers you up in seconds", which is very different. Just preventing you from getting drunker sounds pretty lame.

Yeah, what's the point of drinking if you aren't going to feel any effects? There's a reason non-alcoholic beer isn't popular. There's a cheaper way to not get drunk at all: don't buy alcohol and don't waste money on some stupid pill that keeps alcohol from working its magic.

The only way it would make sense is if you want to make someone think you're getting drunk, but actually aren't... and the only use for that is if you're trying to get a girl drunk so you can take advantage of her, and have some level of deniability the next day.

If this pill truly does sober you up, one would think that staggering would not be a side effect. :D

Sounds like a plan. Lets get on that.

The way I read the article, it has enzymes that break up the alcohol, sobering you up. Go to the club, party all night, take a pill to drive home. No puking, no hangover. Sounds good to me.
