Anyone have this problem? It's a 160 gb Ipod classic that's worked fine for the few years I've had it. Then yesterday I go to add a few files and it goes to shit-tried restoring it and nothing.

Will synch about halfway then makes a crackling noise inside. Last time I tried it said "Attempting to copy yo the disk failed. MAke sure your cd drive or internet connection is working properly and try again."

Any idea how to fix or do I need to just bring it to the store?

Hard drive is dead. Was it more a "clicking" sound than a cracking sound?

You'll need to BUY another one. Yours is way out of warranty, sir.

There's no way I can afford a new one any time soon. It still powers up, but won't take any of the files on it-is there nothing I can do short of replacing it?

Is it worth bringing it to the Apple store and seeing what they say?

Can't hurt to try, but it's dead. Don't suppose you got Apple Care?

Although I will say I am annoyed that it lasted less than three years and there is no fix. Would like more durable goods.

Search your local Craigslist for iPod repair guys. Probably run you pretty high since that used a pretty expensive internal hard drive if they can't fix it and it needs to be replaced.

Or sell it for parts on Ebay or Craigs. Still probably get at least $75 for it.
