I use hotmail. I've only got one email that was spam in the last two months.:icon_conf

Also, on MySpace I'm seeing less spam as well.

What's the world coming to?

More than ever is getting sent. It's just the hotmail filters are improving. Shared blacklists and improved logic are improving filtering on many different services.

I never really liked spam. that whole jellied meat product thing is kinda gross. I have seen some pretty cool spam carvings though.

I think it depends on your email. I've got one account with optonline.net (that's from my ISP) and it's the worst. I don't get a lot of porn on that one but I do get a lot of letters from Nigerians looking to make a buck. AOL's spam filters get rid of just about everything - I hardly get any spam on my AOL account. I've got a few gmail accounts and while I get a ton of spam there, gmail's filters recognize most of it as such and sends it to a spam filter.

how do spammers make money? who the hell is buying anything from an unsolicited email where they spell stuff wrong or address something to 100 people at the same time? investing, medication, luxury items... it's beyond comprehension that anyone would buy something of importance this way.

I think the theory behind sending spam is that at least one percent of the people you send it to will buy something. Now one percent maybe a small number but if you send it to a million or more people, one percent is a lot of people.

its still fucking mind boggling to think that anyone is getting prescription (and probably fake) meds online from unsolicited email. how that seems like a good idea to even 1% of the people is amazing.

It only takes a few FoB's to fund their operations. We setup filters and caught E360's garbage about a year ago. They target millions and rake in a few scraps from stupid people.

We went from spamassassin + various RBL/SURBL lists to using Ironport to filter spam. Ironport cost a lot of $$, but we are now blocking 96% of all email, representing about 13MM messages each day. Some of the sewer still leaks into our network, but it is at least manageable now.

I use Yahoo mail and they have stepped up their filters lately. It was getting bad.

I took my myspace profile off of private and had a dozen robot whores spamming me to death in no time at all.

All of the spam that everyone else is no longer getting seems to now be showing up at Wackbag email addresses.
