Joe Gibbs Resigns as Redskins Head Coach

By Howard Schneider and Jason LaCanfora

Redskins coach Joe Gibbs is resigning, according to Redskins sources. The team is planning a press conference this afternoon to discuss the Hall of Famer's decision to leave as both coach and team president.

No decision has been made on a replacement for Gibbs, who has spent a total 16 years with the organization in two stints. A process will be put in place, team sources said, to choose one.

Thank God! I'm praying for Cowher but if Snyder is right he will name Greg Williams as new head coach.

Also just hearing he is staying on as an adviser...

Believe me. If Snyder wants him bad enough he will get him. You think Gibbs' old ass wanted to come back to coaching?

But Gibbs was out for a long time. Cowher just retired and wants to spend time with his family, I dont know if Snyder and his stupid spending on big names that do nothing but lose can get him back yet. Williams would be a good coach for them, he knows the team and the defense knows/likes his system.

As much as I like Bill Cowher as a coach, Synder needs to stay the course and just let Greg Williams be the coach. A coaching change could be good, but that also means bringing in whole new different system and new voice, which could set the franchise back a little bit.

Pete has NFL experience plus he works with paid athletes so there shouldn't really be any change going to the NFL

And it wasn't good experience at all. There's no way Pete Carroll is leaving the college game.

Carroll bolting would be the increasing likelihood of his USC program imploding - thanks to the rapidly disintegrating situation surrounding Reggie Bush. in other words he's fucked if he stays in SoCal
