FBI affidavit: Southfield man made lewd remarks about child pornography on Facebook

A Southfield man is facing charges after posting numerous lewd remarks about child pornography on his Facebook account, according to a criminal complaint filed in federal court today.

The FBI is seeking an arrest warrant for Thaddeus McMichael on child pornography charges. According to an FBI agent’s affidavit, he posted comments on Facebook, in some cases mocking disabled children who get molested.

The FBI in Detroit received a tip last June about a Facebook user who was “actively discussing child pornography and methods for downloading pornography from the Internet," according to the affidavit. Comments posted by the user included statements on how to obtain child porn on the Internet, how to encrypt the images on a computer, and statements such as “all cp isn’t ****, Sometimes the kids want it. Most of the time they NEED it,” records show.

In another Facebook post, records show, he wrote: “What if I adopt a little girl? I’m sure she wouldn’t mind becoming my sex slave if I take her away from the orphanage.”

McMichael said the posts were a joke, records show.

The FBI was led to McMichael with the help of Facebook Inc., after the company was issued two subpoenas for subscriber information, records show.

During a search of his Southfield home Feb. 17, federal agents interviewed McMichael and asked him to explain his Facebook account, records show. McMichael confirmed the profile belonged to him, but said many of the posts were a joke.

He is charged with receipt and possession of child pornography.

Hmmmm...maybe we should refrain from Uncle Paul jokes.

Corny jokes are one thing, posting details on how to acquire CP on your facebook page is another.
Yeah... that is another thing, like maybe criminal facilitation... although even that's a stretch. Possession without any actual possession? That's fucking ridiculous.

Notice how they accuse him of that, but show no examples of him doing it.
I admit it is ridiculous that they are charging him without any material but the feds are going to slap something on him. You cant do something like plot to assassinate someone in great detail on the internet and not expect someone to come knocking on your front door.

I'm betting that he didn't say anything that's not already common knowledge among technically minded folk.

But if you do so on stage, at a place called Bananas, there's no reason to believe that's a credible threat.

True but context makes all the difference in that situation.

Yes... but you should expect that you won't be charged with assassinating someone when all you did was plot to assassinate someone.

And like the guy from the OP I dont expect him to get charged with CP but Im pretty sure that there are going to be lesser charges.

Well, I don't necessarily agree with that. The point is you should be charged with assassinating someone if you joked about plotting to assassinate them. We sentence terrorists and would be assassins all the time for intent to do harm.

You should re-read what you wrote, and give it another go. It ended on a truthful assertion, however.

It's the FBI's Detroit office. We humor them by treating them like they're real cops and not the glorified janitors they really are.

All well and good but according to the article he was charged with
receipt and possession of child pornography.

That requires physical pictures or video.

Either they found some on his computer or some DA is gonna

have a lot of splainin to do.

The article mentions the charges, but doesn't say one thing about confiscating anything.

I now stand corrected. Now it makes sense.

So much for the joking/Chewbacca defense.

Cant yell fire in a movie theater without some implications either. The dude was detailing how to find CP on facebook, that is going to get someone knocking on your door without fail. I understand the conspiracy to commit murder thing was a very loose metaphor but it still applies given the nature of the intent/crime.

To be fair the original article didnt mention the physical evidence. Looks like the dude is going to have to protect that bar of soap for 15-20 years.

I once yelled "Movie" in a crowded firehouse. Nothing happened.

Well, they did feed me, then told me to go home. It was lasagna night. I was too full to argue.

Typical shitty reporting. Neglecting to report the FACTS of the situation. They quote the fucking probably cause affidavit for SOME of the facts, but leave out the evidence seized from the computer.
