Manga Reccomendations

#1
Since we have a comic thread and an anime thread (many anime start as manga anyway) so why not a manga thread? I'll start.

BERSERK:
35 Volumes and still going, one of the most popular manga around and for good reason. Its bloody, its violent, its got monster men, and ****. What else can you ask for? Except amazing art, which it also has.

VAGABOND:
30+ volumes and going. Its the best samurai manga ever created and its based on a real samurai.

VINLAND SAGA:

10+ volumes and going, ever wanted to read a manga about Vikings? Well Vinland Saga is for you, bloody and violent as hell. I would bet this becomes an anime at some point.

Black Lagoon:
9+ volumes and going, liked the anime? Well its still going strong as a comic.

ahhhhh shit, there is a manga thread. can you merg my post into that one?

I was planning to read the attack on titan manga comics but people keep saying the show is almost as good. I usually prefer the comics though.

I just finished the Evangelion manga. It's what Rebuild should've been.

I've never read or seen any of the Evangelion stuff, but I came across a long gif with this mecha tearing shit up. Now I can't find it anymore but I think this is him in a different scene.

Looks cool as fuck.

Eva, at this point, is as iconic as anything else anime.

The original series was pretty good, though they ran out of money for the last few episodes and later had to wrap things up in End of Evangelion (the film). It's a somewhat convoluted story, with a lot of religious imagery throw in because it looks good. Receptions to the three main pilots can be pretty varied, so it's not for everyone.

The series has been milked to death too, tons upon tons upon tons of merch. That gif is from the Rebuild Movies, basically a retelling of the series in a bunch of movies featuring a mix of good animation and shit CGI. It's arguably worse than the series, despite some cool scenes, and eventually goes off the rails hard.

From what I understand, it's too unwieldy to adapt without it becoming a cluster fuck or dumbing it down.

I would hate to see it dumbed down, but after seeing FMA: Botherhood. I have no doubt any manga could be adapted faithfully.

Side note, finished Gurren Lagann. Loved the final battle scenes. Watching Samurai Champloo on netflix because I wanted to see it in its original Japaneses after watching it ages ago on adult swim

What didn't you like about Brotherhood?

Reading Blue Exorcist after watching the anime.

The manga is better because it does more world building and gets deeper into subplots the show only touched on.

Also, the stories vary quite a lot and the manga is still ongoing.

Think you misunderstood. Botherhood was almost a word for word remake of the manga, meaning, any manga can be done as anime.

Thats a good thing.
Anything can be done into anything, if you change it enough, but there are manga that would be hard to make into an anime series with a bunch of 20 minute episodes.

Yotsuba&! (which is very popular, and critically acclaimed) for instance consists mostly of scattered, and often extremely mundane scenes, with minimal dialogue, rather than a plot. And it's been taking place in the same summer, in the life of the same five year old girl, for the past 12 years now.

It's funny and endearing in manga form (because you can sit and take in the parts you like, and blitz through anything that might bore you - since there's not much reading to be done), but there's no way anyone would want to sit through an animated version of that for 20 minutes at a time.

It's a good series. I like the anime too, but it really kind of falls apart after episode 20.

Since Berserk was in the news, I figured I would check on the manga and see if it updated. 3 new issues were out and they FINALLY made it to that god dam fairy island. It only took a few fucking years to do it.

The new OPM FINALLY came out today! Very happy.

If you like the OPM manga, you can watch Murata drawing pages here daily.

Isn't manga just weirdo fantasy pornography with names like "Tentacles up the mouth, nose, cunt, ass and pisshole Volume 47?"

Does that make me a demigod?
Quite the opposite. Its all covered in Volume 2: "The virtues of proper usage of birth control from the point of view of a burden".

You get referred to as a burden quite often. I hope I didnt ruin the ending for you.

Thats called "hentai", hentai means pervert in Japanese.

Manga is Japanese comics in general. Most anime starts as manga comics, and yes, there are hentai manga comics.

The good thing about the Japanese is that they make their anime almost word for word what the manga is. So unlike American adaptation which mash garbage and shit together from 50 story lines, anime is just a animated version of the manga comics. In other words, you get exactly what you wanted , only moving and with colors.

Like with One Punch Man's manga.

I started reading Mob Psycho 100, which is made by ONE (the creator of One Punch Man) and its just as good as One Punch Man. ONE also includes a few characters from One Punch Man like Tatsumaki.

Can't wait for them to make the anime, it should be great.

Which is why I sometimes find myself unsure if I read a scene or saw the anime. For example, the fight between Genos and Saitama in that valley or between Saitama and that genetic experiment beetle thing. They're pretty much panel for panel.
