Movie Marvel's Black Panther - February 16, 2018

Yesterdays Hero

She's better than you, Smirkalicious.
What about India?

They don't have genocide riots and **** to get rid of AIDS, but the filth there is almost unbeatable.
When you live in a house, and your neighbors house is such a prolific shithole, it's going to leak over into your place. Trump had a point with 'Shithole Countries'. The shitty countries 'tend to' be next to shitty countries. Exceptions to every rule not withstanding.

Can't wait for this latest flash in the pan to fuck off. Africa is a epitome of 'bad place'. No amount of 'pro Africa' movies will change that simple fact.

I cum into socks.
I did find it funny how the line about "refugees bring their problems" slid in and no one seemed to acknowledge it.

Expect it to be cut from the home video release.

Black Panther was pretty good. Great acting and design, but the origin story and generic CGI battle bloat held it back.

Had no clue Winston Duke went to the Brian Blessed school of acting.

Now that I have some time to formulate my thoughts before RLM tells me how to believe...

- Really liked the cast, think everyone did a great job. Didn't expect the supporting cast to be so strong. I would look forward to a second Black Panther movie not necessarily because of Black Panther, but for the general and African Q.
- Costumes were really creative.
- I get that they have magical tech and stuff, but it seemed way left field for what we've had from the MCU. Iron Man has its fair share of soft sci-fi, but this was on a whole other level. For the work they did with Dr Strange to make magic seem more grounded the over the top tech here seemed a hard opposite direction. Having really strong metal doesn't explain all the tech either.
- I really thought Michael B. Jordan's character was going to be more bad ass. Right about when he killed Clawguy he just became a boring wet blanket. I was very bored with the fight between him and Black Panther.
- None of the action scenes were particularly great that I can recall. Casino scene? Meh. Car chase? Meh. Two battles on the waterfall? Meh.
- I feel like Martin Freeman is miscast in this kind of role. It's too flat and stoic for someone with comedy chops.
- There were parts I thought the CGI was really bad, the green-screening was way more obvious than previous films. Were the Black Panther costumes CGI at the end?

Also, Killmonger is a terrible name.

Speaking of which, Peaky Blinders pissed me off last night because the boss of the family keeps getting bitched around by this old cunt.

Its 1920...ish? Back hand the cunt.
She's not bad for an old bird. Just find a Gray Fox to give her a decent shagging.
Red Fox. Her husband:

Red Fox. Her husband:

Who gives a fuck what she looks like or what her husband looks like?

My point was they're injecting modern day feminism in a time period where it didn't exist.

But anyway, back to Black Panther. Fuck Peaky Blinders.

Lol that you don’t think men were bossed around by bitchy women all the way back to the Stone Age.

Its less believable when its the boss of a crime family in the 1920s. Mob guys are usually a bunch of thugs who treat women like garbage no matter the era/time.

Ok, I've done my rant. I won't speak anymore of that dumb show so as to not commandeer this thread any further.

@Pigdango - since this blew away all box office expectations, I am getting the feeling that Infinity War could do better than anyone is expecting. Wakanda seems to be a big part of it, and with how incredibly popular it is right now, it's like striking while the iron is hot for both Marvel hype in general, and Black Panther hype in particular. Perhaps a threat to Cameronian dominance even?

I don’t know. Clearly this movie significantly expanded Marvel’s fan base, but will those people turn out to see him fight a purple spaceman? The marketing has barely included him to this point. I expect that to change in a hurry now that he’s number 2 behind Iron Man in the Marvel hierarchy. Arguably #1, even.

No movie will ever beat Avatar’s worldwide box office. TFA didn’t even come that close, and that had 10 years of hype, not 10 weeks. I’m thinking Deadpool or Solo may move out of May into the spot Alita just bugged out of.

And to think that even without them intentionally wanting to push Black Panther related content, it is still heavily featured in the trailer, which makes me think that it will be at least one major setpiece in the movie if not more.

And so yeah I do think more people will see it now because of Black Panther who maybe wouldn't if not for it. How many is the unknown here. And I was thinking more about Titanic than Avatar. I really don't know what will ever dethrone that at this point. But who knows. I mean if Infinity War is legitimately fantastic, then maybe something truly special could happen. This movie just had the 5th biggest opening of all time and it's February and it did $50 million more than people thought over the 3-day weekend. I'm still a firm believer that anything can happen if the movie is really good.

With nothing coming out til Ready Player One, which doesn’t even seem to be getting much traction, there’s a legit chance Black Panther could top Avengers’ domestic gross.

I developed this fantasy about Ryan Coogler helming an Otherland movie series. It's a sprawling sci-fi epic that's Africa-centric and led by a black South African woman and it's this insane virtual reality but also maybe supernatural and features African culture pretty heavily. It feels like the perfect time to adapt something like this. And the books are great.

The way the audiences reacted to seeing
Bucky
in the post credits scene, makes me think that people are really excited about Infinity War. Now only time will tell if the members of the expanded audience that I referred to another post will show up to see it. But if they do, there is a good chance that Infinity War can do better than expected.

As I've said before in this thread, that moment got a huge reaction even in Tel Aviv, but there is also the Thursday night premiere factor so it skews towards heavier fans. Still, as Piggy said, I expect them to break out every bit of Black Panther they have for the next trailer.

Haven't seen the movie but have a spoiler question

Was there any mention of infinity stones hidden in Wakanda?
