According to the Latino Review, the "Untitled Marvel movie" scheduled for May 16, 2014 will NOT be Ant Man, will NOT be Incredible Hulk 2(3), and will NOT be Avengers 2, but Guardians of the Galaxy.

http://latino-review.com/2012/06/28/exclusive-marvels-2014-movie-revealed/

They’ve been buying up domain names as we rapidly approach Comic Con, everyone knows Marvel is about to drop a movie-bomb on us and now, Latino Review knows what it is.

Usually good old Da7e is trotted out of his studding pasture to talk to you about comics he knows something about, this – however – is bit out of my league and, of course, out of THIS WORLD.

Marvel’s plan has been 2 superhero movies in their Unified Film Universe each year. Next year will bring us the new entries into the ‘Thor’ and ‘Iron Man’ and 2014 will bring us ‘Captain America 2′ and…

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY.

The Marvel comics universe is called 616. Long story, just accept it. The Guardians of the Galaxy are a team of superheroes from the future of Universe 691. There, an evil alien race called the Badoom is trying to take over the universe. And then the Badoom create the Korvac, and… don’t worry, we have until 2014 to slowly educate ourselves on Guardians of the Galaxy.

The important thing is, at some point, the Guardians get all time-hoppy and jet back to the 20th century (yes, 20th. Probably the 21st in the movie universe) to meet with the Avengers and fight some aliens.

The Guardians have been made up of several third-tier Marvel characters in the past and a Volume 2 reboot that took place in 2008. I’m going to save myself a lot of copy-and-paste and link to the wikipedia list of Guardians here. You probably haven’t heard of most of them.

What else do we know about Guardians of the Galaxy?

- It will be announced as Marvel’s second 2014 movie at Comic Con
- Thanos is in it.
- It will “lead up to” The Avengers 2 in 2015.
- ”THE SCRIPT IS INCREDIBLE”

So let’s parse some of that.

One: The end credits scene at the end of The Avengers was both a teaser for ‘Avengers 2′ AND ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’

Two: The Guardians being added to the Unified Universe means the theorhetical chronological order of Marvel Unified Movie Universe Phase 2 is: ‘Iron Man 3′ ‘Thor 2′ ‘Captain America 2′ ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’ Hulk gets the shaft.

Three: If I were to point you in the direction of a comic to read to theorize what Guardians of the Galaxy would be about, I’d suggest you go buy The Thanos Imperative.

Four: Nova. Expect Nova. There’s got to be a reason that Nova keeps showing up in stuff like Disney’s Ultimate Spider-Man and Marvel’s AvX. He’s not a Guardian per se, but he’s the most recognizable Marvel space character to the all-important “we’re young and buy toys” demographic.

Cool?
My guess on the lineup:
Adam Warlock
Drax the Destroyer
Quasar
Martyr
Moondragon

The article speculates that Nova will also be brought in, and I'll add my guess that Captain Marvel will also be included.

Even though I predicted this would happen, this is a HUGE gamble on Marvel's part, as the budget will have to be well north of $200 million. I'm sure it will be closely tied in to the Avengers series, and the events of this will no doubt lead directly into Avengers 2, but even still - I just don't know if there's an audience big enough to justify it. Should be interesting.

Yeah. Guardians of the Galaxy seems like an odd choice.

I suppose Iron Man was a similar risk when they did that, and it's likely this will do better than Disney's other recent $200 million dollar gambles (John Carter and The Lone Tonto) almost by default. I'm sure Disney was pressuring them to skip this and go right to Avengers 2, so you've got to hand it to Marvel for sticking to their guns.

Yeah this seems to me be huge gamble on Disney/Marvel's part. While I recognize some of the names that would make up the roster of GOTG, the same can't be said for the average movie goer. They're putting a lot a faith in thinking that people are just going to come out because its a comic book movie set in space.

As a casual comic fan, I knew who Iron Man, Thor and Captain America were. I don't know shit about any of these suspected characters.

Iron Man is more popular than Guardians of the Galaxy. I've seen that argument made before too, that Iron Man wasn't well known to the public therefore one shouldn't complain about the lack of public awareness of GotG, but there are middle grounds between known by all and obscure to practically all.

i liked daredevil but it came out when it was still cool to hate ben affleck because he committed the great offense of dating jennifer lopez.
No. That wasn't the problem with Daredevil.

Right. Because that's the only thing he's done in his career. Not like he was Deadpool or anything.

Though I've complained about the lack of forward momentum on DC live action properties before.

I've never seen XMOW, but I've heard that Ryan Reynolds was a pretty shitty Deadpool. Was it Reynolds, or the way they handled him in the movie that made him shitty?

DC should have more going than just Superman and Batman, but I still think this has a lot to do with WB only wanting to make 1 Superhero movie per year, while many studios handle the Marvel movies, so it seems like they're more prolific. Marvel Studios just started doing two movies per year last year, and only did one this year.

If you can guess that Avengers 2 will be in 2015, and Avengers 3 will be in 2018, the smart thing for WB to do if they want to stick with the one movie per year format would be to pencil in JL for 2017, then work backwards from there:

2013 - Man of Steel
2014 - Wonder Woman
2015 - Aquaman
2016 - Batman Re-Begins
2017 - Justice League

If they can work up the balls to move up to 2 per year:

2013 - Man of Steel/Green Arrow
2014 - Wonder Woman/Green Lantern 2
2015 - Aquaman/Man of Steel 2
2016 - Flash/Batman Re-Begins
2017 - Justice League

After Batman and Superman, there are no other DC characters that are well known enough to have a movie made about them.

As to why Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool was shitty, it was a little bit of both.

They need to do a new Green Lantern movie in the way they did Iron Man, actually spend the time and money to do it right. The Green Lantern movie was complete dogshit.

A stand alone Deadpool movie would be awesome if again, they invested the time and money into doing it right. And keep Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson

I think if people gave John Carter a chance they will really like it. I shit all over the movie when it was promoted in theatres. I watched it recently on blu ray and absolutely loved it.

As for the Lone Ranger movie, I just despise Johnny Depp in some of his roles so I don't know how it is going to be.

I don't agree with this at all, and I'm a Marvel Fan Boy. Green Lantern, Flash, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, and Nightwing's solo books all outsell the solo books of the Avengers:

And if they do a Justice League Movie there has to be the Legion of Doom. DC has to take after how Marvel built their series. Marvel did it right.
The only problem with that is Nolan's version of Batman might not fit with what the director of a Justice League Movie wants. They would have to make the individual character's movies similar to what Nolan did with The Dark Knight trilogy for it to work.

That's why I keep saying that a Justice League movie shouldn't even be made. There are just going to be too many headaches in getting it to the big screen.
