Hughes Rhymes With Jews. Coincidence?
#1
I know most of you have no idea who i am nor do you care but i've been lurking here and vaguely been participating off and on for a while now.

I've been suckered in to playing DJ at a local bar this saturday night for a battle of the bands. The bands are all different variations of Metal/Hard Rock.

So far my playlist consists of some of the following:

Pantera
Hellyeah
Mudvayne
Mushroomhead
Killswitch Engage
Sevendust
and
System of a Down/Serj's new single

I have no idea how much time i'm going to have to fill between setup and tear down for however many bands are competing in this thing so i'd really appreciate some suggestions.

I'm looking for newer stuff that this crowd will know and like as well as older classic metal like Pantera.

I realize i may sound like a babbling douche with my music choices so far but this genre isn't something that i know a hell of a lot about and i really do need help with it.

You could always go with crowd pleasers like Metallica, Godsmack, Disturbed, Saliva, etc. That's just easy and normal.

If you're looking for newer bands, you could always check out:

Trivium
Unearth
Scum of the Earth
Children of Bodom
Brand New Sin
Mushroomhead
Meshuggah
Strapping Young Lad
Black Label Society

I mean this is shit off the top of my head. I'm sure everyone will post theres as well.

Avenged Sevenfold is another hot newer band.

Everyone loves Megadeth, Slayer.

Celtic Frost is another one.

You drab South Bend cocksuckers are all the same.

I'd watch out with that new Serj, man. I love it, but it's not really all that heavy. You can't go wrong with some Shadows Fall, though. Some old Slipknot favorites, too.

i appreciate the hell out of this guys, the more specific you can be with bands-song titles the easier it will be for me

i'm in the middle of doing a lot of "acquiring" for this i'll post a playlist draft in about 30 minutes or so for you to critique and add to

the more it leans towards hits the better it'll be for me

i've got to find all of these songs and i dont have too long to do it so the more popular the better

I dislike a lot of the bands you're playing, but if it's for a more popular crowd I would see why you put those. I'll just list a few good albums that have a big enough following and are good but your average Joe who listens to local rock stations won't know. Use if you want. If you want straight-forward particular songs from the albums just say so.

Down - Nola
Ministry - Psalm 69
Overkill - Years of Decay
Black Sabbath - Master of Reality
Corrosion of Conformity - In the Arms of God
Exodus - Shovel Headed Kill Machine
Helmet - Meantime
Jesus Lizard - Goat
SOD - Speak English Or Die
Prong - Cleansing
Sacred Reich - American Way

I tried to keep it mostly upbeat stuff for partying.

It's from a cartoon, but every metal fan I know in person likes pretty much every song by Dethklok. Murmaider, Go Into The Water, Hatredcopter, Thunderhorse, Murdertrain A Comin', and Dethharmonic are the more popular songs.

I've found myself to be an exception to this, but I can't stand this shit and don't get the hype around it. Sounds like more metalcore false shit to me.

Sure. These should generally go over well:

Down - Lifer, Hail the Leaf, Eyes of the South, Stone the Crow, Bury Me In Smoke

Ministry - NWO, Just One Fix

Overkill - Time to Kill, Elimination

Black Sabbath - Sweet Leaf(has a big following), Into the Void

Corrosion of Conformity - Is It that Way, World on Fire, In the Arms of God

Exodus - Deathamphetamine, Shudder to Think, Altered Boy

Helmet - In the Meantime, Unsung(was a pretty big hit)

SOD(Stormtroopers of Death) - March of the S.O.D, Sargent D & the S.O.D, Speak English or Die

Prong - Cut Rate, Snap Your Fingers Snap Your Neck(everyone digs this song)

That should be a decent amount for now. If you want more let me know. A good variety of different kinds of metal too.

Got One?

.....and she was a stewardess.

beyond fear - scream machine, save me, words of wisdom, telling lies

nevermore - the sound of silence, seed awakening, this godless endeavor, a future uncertain, final product, dead heart in a dead world, narcosynthesis, poison godmachine (one of my favorites),

evergrey - a touch of blessing, nosferatu, a scattered me, the great deceiver, as i lie here bleeding

iced earth - shit there's too many good Iced songs....

and now i gotta go play some guitar and have some more beer... i'll list some more later....

Video's not much to speak of, so just let it play in the background. Good for Faith No More / Mr. Bungle fans. In fact...

Noticed they were missing. A must-have.

Edit: Mods: Trying to use the fucking goddamn cunting YouTube brackets and evidently it's still not fucking goddamn working. If you could fix this stupid fucking worthless shit, it would be greatly appreciated.

Start your set off with Slayer's "Reign in Blood". For some reason that song gets crowds worked up like nothing I've ever seen.

If you're playing real metal I'd stay away from trendy crap like Avenged Sevenfold, and whoever suggested Tool has no idea what metal even is.

For newer stuff, Lamb of God is a good choice. For older stuff stick with Maiden, Sabbath, Metallica, Megadeth that sorta stuff.

And if you really wanna be cool play some Venom.
