So my wife's email sent out a mail to all her contacts today...approximately 7 contacts per message, probably 20 messages total...I found out because I got the message from her. The subject was : salutations and the entire message body was

%LINKRNDCHR,5,10%%

the header trace shows the email coming directly from microsoft's email servers in Redmond, WA and lists my wife as indeed the source of the email...

There are 100's if not 1000's of people today reporting this hack in the last 24hrs...I am thinking that somebody decided to fuck with microsoft because they just switched all their mail accounts over to outlook.com for security/safety etc..

Found this post on it on Live help...

I cannot find any malware/viruses etc on the laptop she uses for email and it's the ONLY place she does email and is very savvy about avoiding shitty crap...She hasn't even checked her email since last week (That's a whole different story) so it's not like it could have been initiated by her getting hijacked...No remote log ons, no public wifi...very perplexing...I am guessing it's a microsoft issue...
anyone in tech hear about this?
