DEA Raids Medical Marijuana Shops in Washington State

July 24, 2013

Federal agents have raided a number of medical marijuana dispensaries in the Puget Sound region.

Drug Enforcement Administration spokeswoman Jodie Underwood said Wednesday afternoon the operation was under way. She declined to immediately provide details about how many dispensaries were being targeted or how many search warrants were being executed.

Washington state legalized adult possession of up to an ounce of marijuana last fall, but marijuana remains illegal under federal law.

Didn't Obama say that he wouldn't send the feds in after WA and CO legalized MJ? I'm kinda shocked. That guy never lies.

Just make the damn plant legal so it becomes worthless for the legitimate criminals who profit the most from it.

I made a similar argument for legalization on another board, and was told "that won't work because the cartels already have all the manufacturing and distribution set up and will quickly undercut the free market and drive them out!" Yep, because the one thing illegal drug cartels want to do is play by the rules.

That is why I think they should legalize it so people can grow their own plants for consumption. Then you can have those medicinal type shops sell the quality stuff and all the various other consumption methods that take extra work produce. Once it is no longer illegal the price should drop tremendously since it is not something that takes a great deal of work to produce a quality product. It should be like growing your own herbs or vegetables, anybody can do it if they have a little space but most find it plenty cheap to just pickup at the store. How could a cartel compete with that.

He said he wouldn't go after individual users but he would still go after growers and distributors.

There is just way too much money and power to gain by keeping it illegal. Imagine all the power government would lose if crime took a huge hit like it did after alcohol prohibition ended. Look at all the agencies that exist and how many government employes there are just for illegal drugs. Making drugs legal would be nothing but negatives for a big government but all the pot smoking hippies think they can have a big government and legalized drugs.
