$257 fucking dollars. TWOOOO HUNDRED! FIFTY SEVEN!!!!! DOLLARS!!!!!!!

The police got me. They got me good. I was a NAUGHTY, NAUGHTY boy. I did wrong. Good thing they threw me in handcuffs at the time. I'm a convict! Is there an officer on wackbag that can anonymously tell me what the deal is with this shit?

Story:

Riding my bicycle across campus, a campus policeman stepped in front of me telling me to walk my bike. I went around him. He calls his buddy on a motorcycle.... I'm busted. I'm in cuffs, asking them to lock my bike up before they put me in jail. (I've dumped more money into my bike than most do on their first car.)

I could have gotten an "Evading police" ticket, which I understand..... but the cop knew my employer and he "let me go" with a "RIDING MY BIKE WITH EARPHONES." I'm thinkin, oh hell yeah! I could pay that with my spare change. HA! Like I said..... $257 fucking dollars for riding my bike with earphones. Listening to Opie and Anthony none the less.

I literally have no option but to fight the price of this ticket. It just seems like extortion, and I don't have an extra $257 just laying around.

Aren't speeding tickets like $120? Cars can go 90 mph in a 65, but I can't ride my bike and listen to OnA at the same time. And if I do, I pay twice the cost. FUCK YOU UC BERKELEY POLICE!

What should I do? I've been in trouble with the law and have always fully accepted responsibility, but I feel like I HAVE to fight this... just to afford it. Should I accept the warrant and not pay? I drive MAYBE 25 times a year. Getting pulled over on a bicycle is 1 in a million.

The problem is the fact that it was in commie Berkley. And this story sounds really familiar, I think someone else here got a ticket for the same thing a little while ago.

Cop from what jurisdiction? Where were you riding (on what kind of surface, road, path, sidewalk, bikepath, etc.)?

The actual ticket is for "RIDING MY BIKE WITH EARPHONES" which is illegal and a safety issue. That's why they gave him the ticket. Not saying it's right or wrong just pointing that out.

Here is your problem, it's not the fact that you got a $257 fine, you don't respect the LAW.

And when the Law says to stop then you stop. If the law says,"I wanna suck your cock," then you fucking let him without question.

It's a stupid fucking fine but you do live out there in Commufornia.

I'd contest the fine if I were you. It can't hurt to be a pain in their ass.

And if all else fails... accuse the cop of racism.

Fuck it, it works for everyone else. At the very least, you'll get the rent-a-cop fired.

It does seem excessive, especially for a first offense. The proper argument would be that it is cruel and unusual -- under the concept that the punishment far exceeds the offense. But are the campus police actual cops or rent-a-cops? Most colleges have you sign away certain rights as part of your acceptance of admission. If this is their policy and not city law you may be screwed.

my last ticket, was for speeding 50 in a 45, and cost me 226$ and i had to go to court, if i just paid the ticket it would have been 250$ and 3 points......

i say fight the man, chances are the cop wont show up for the hearing and it will all go away, but your going to have to pay the fine first

This sounds like Bravo Sierra. You go to Berkeley but can't afford too-fitty for a ticket?

But being out here in Communist Red California I sympathize with you.

Campus Bicycle Policies

Be respectful of pedestrians; they have the right-of-way.

Dismount Zone: In the area of Sproul and Dwinelle Plazas, riding is prohibited during peak periods of pedestrian traffic; between 8am and 6pm, Monday through Friday. Bicyclists must walk their bicycles in the Dismount Zone during those times or be subject to citation.

The recommended speed on campus paths is 5 mph within 10 feet of any pedestrian and 10 mph elsewhere.

Bicyclists are subject to the same rules of the road as motor vehicle drivers. The maximum speed limit on roadways is 25 mph, except where posted otherwise. In driveways and parking lots it is 10 mph.
The key legal point here is that bicyclists are subject to the same rules of the road as motor vehicles.

You're not allowed to wear headphones while driving a car, but you are allowed (and encouraged) to wear hands-free headsets to use with your cell phone. Are you SURE that's what you weren't wearing? ;)

So those cock suckers can give me a ticket for not wearing my seat belt while riding a bike?

What about BWI?

Can I park my car on the sidewalk with a chain around it?

Use some fucking common sense you ticket writing faggots.

Well depends on the school.
Rutgers cops are full on State Troopers But yeah I just threw them away....5 years after I graduated, I got a letter saying that I would not recieve my diploma if I did not pay a parking ticket...soo
