I can see it being PEDs, but it doesn't make much sense. Since when do they drug test guys pre-fight? Maybe he knew he would test dirty eventually and cracked under the pressure, confessed, and it blew up in his face? I was thinking maybe he tried some dumb shit like holding out for more money last minute. That would certainly be an instant firing issue.

So.... think he was taking something to cut weight?
It seems that way. He most likely failed due to diuretics to aid in weight cutting.

Even if he was going to test positive, that's not enough reason to cut him when guys like Sherk, Sonnen and most recently Silva, all tested positive and still have their jobs.

He had to do something real bad, like tampering with the tests or something.

Nate Marquardt Did NOT Fail Drug Test
After Nate Marquardt unexpectedly failed his medicals for “UFC on Versus 4,” keyboard warriors across the globe immediately assumed the veteran was busted for using performance-enhancing drugs. Well, you know what always seems to happen when you assume things…

While the exact reason behind Marquardt’s abrupt exile from Octagon country remains a mystery, Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission executive director Gregory Sirb confirmed with MMAFighting that PED abuse was not the cause of the 32-year-old’s indefinite suspension.

“I’ve been here 22 years and we do not embarrass anybody,” Sirb claimed Monday. “But we would have said, ‘drug test.’”

Pennsylvania’s HIPAA laws prevent the disclosure of what stopped Marquardt from performing this past Sunday inside the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh. However, the bylaws do not prohibit them from disclosing a positive drug screening.

Marquardt was previously banned by Nevada’s governing body after testing positive for high levels of nandrolone, an anabolic steroid, following his decision victory over Ivan Salaverry at “UFC Fight Night” in August 2006.

According to the PSAC’s official website, any professional fighter seeking licensing must (These requirements are similar to what other states request, including Nevada):

Provide negative HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatits C surface antigen exams.

Produce the results from their annual medical exam, which would reveal potential issues related to vision, lungs, heart rate, the nervous system, coordination and more.

Furthermore, the commission is permitted to request additional exams.

So, somewhere in the medical madness listed above is where Marquardt appears to have dropped the ball. Although he was alerted of the issue a month-and-a-half prior to Saturday’s weigh-ins, “Nate the Great” wasn’t able to fix the problem in time.

Outside of a generic tweet, Marquardt has been mum regarding the controversy. He is expected to address the issue publicly for the first time on Tuesday’s edition of The MMA Hour on MMAFighting.com.

I'm going with HEP, but why would he say "I'll be back"...there is no coming back from the Hi-5 or HEP in fighting...maybe he had a cold sore...

White said he was disgusted with Nate, so it has to be something serious, right? And if its something like Hep, how is that the other commissions weren't able to detect it?

Hopefully Helwani will get all the answers from Nate tomorrow on his radio show.

Hypogonadism Disorder...Low testosterone...So he was on Testosterone for it and it was too high to pass the Penn Requirements...
http://www.heavy.com/mma/ufc/2011/06/marquardt-says-he-needed-testosterone-replacement-therapy/

Nate Marquardt and Chael Sonnen have plenty in common.

Marquardt revealed today on MMAFighting.com that he suffers from low testosterone - the same testosterone deficiency that kick-started Sonnen's troubles with the California State Athletic Commission. Marquardt said that he began the treatment last August.

Marquardt was given a clearance by the New Jersey commission for his fight with Dan Miller, but he was required to go off treatment for eight weeks before taking a battery of blood tests. He was then given a doctor's note saying that he needed replacement therapy. This was three weeks prior to the fight with Rick Story. Marquardt's doctor put him on a more aggressive treatment program since he was so close to his fight. Two weeks later, he took a blood test, which came back high for testosterone.

After he was refused medical clearance, his main event fight with Rick Story at UFC on Versus 4 fell apart, and Marquardt was subsequently released from the UFC by an irate Dana White.

More updates to come shortly.

he's got the same problem as Fez right?

-"Uh, his gonads were...uhhh...not secreting enough viscous testosterone...uhhh...into his system..." -dr steve

makes sense...His weight cut, combined with a non-standard treatment fucked him...When he dropped the H2O weight it would have concentrated everything else in his blood and as a result elevated his testosterone. You could actually calculate the true value based on the % increase in body weight AFTER rehydration post weigh in...

I don't understand why they are even allowing TRT in MMA.

It is banned in pretty much every other sport.

ALSO, considering the main reason a man who isn't 80 years old would need it in the first place is because of previous steroid abuse it should just flat out be banned.

I normally agree with Dana White on most of his decisions, but I think it reeks of bullshit that Marquart is "BANNED FOR LIFE" while Sonnen was going to be rewarded with a number one contendors fight for the same fucking thing.

Nate may have fucked up a main event at the last minute, but if Sonnen hadn't gotten choked the fuck out he would his failing the test would have been an even bigger disaster.

Actually if you listen to weird medicine w/ dr steve apparently low testosterone is one of the most widespread disorders effecting men. He says anyone who feels sluggish w/ a good nights sleep, low energy and a diminished sex drive should have a testosterone level done. If he went off his treatment and the levels went low then he needs it...it's just not something people are ever going to believe in his line of work. He said it saved his marriage...and i have to think he's not going to lie like that. He thinks he may have fucked up his endocrin system by taking andro pills.
That's why everyone says that Fez needs his checked

Nate should pick a new career then. As far as I'm concerned if you need TRT to compete in MMA then you shouldn't be competing in MMA.

Be a trainer, Open a gym, coach high scool wrestling, just don't participate in prizefighting if you need a doctor to prescribe you steroids to do it.

Sonnen gets to go back to being a real estate agent......

oh wait...

Never mind... I forgot that he lied and cheated at THAT job too.......

I hear McDonalds is hiring though.

So basically Nate had so much juice on his system during his training, that come Saturday his T levels were still too high. I think he said that by Sunday, he was back to normal levels, so that means he fucked up his cycle.

Fighters like Hughes, Couture, Hendo, Sonnen, Duffee are on it, so I think is safe to assume TRT isn't going anywhere. What's worse is that White knew Nate was on TRT, but had Nate passed his medical, he wouldn't have care one bit. There's something wrong with that.
